I had some problems recently with the rod knock in my car. I took it apart and tried replacing the bearing. It started up fine and ran well.......until i went around the block the noise came back and got louder and louder until finaly the rod cap shot clean through the oil pan. Now I am stuck in a rut. I still owe 3 grand on the civic. So I thought the bank could help me out. I went to the bank and was basically told to buy a new car from GM and use the equity from their employee discount crap to pay off my car...**** that. I was told that i could, however, get a 3 grand signature loan to pay for any "repairs" my car might need. So do i just get a new engine and call it a day or is 3gs enough to go for the gusto and get something sweet done?

 

The "Y" engines have been known to throw bearings. I would get it rebuilt, or maybe throw in a turbo'd D16Z6. Just a thought. (psst, check out sohchonda.com for all of your sohc needs.)

 

just look for a used motor, i'm sure someone in your area has one leftover from doing a swap and will sell it cheap.

From a lack of changing the oil when you should.

 

3g's will buy you a b16 easily man. if you live in a place where they dont really do scrutinous inspections, im sure you can get one with a shady origin for like 800 bucks, otherwise spend 1500 or whatever then buy some cams.

 

Umm, no. *******. all have been near 3-4 so it is predicted that it's an oiling issue. All members that I know who have had this are very religious about oil changes.

 

After #3 ringlands went on my original Y8 block, I picked up a spare for cheap and swapped it in. The new block turned out to have rod knock, and this eventually happened:


As for your options: you could find another D16 to swap in relatively cheaply and easily, or $3k could easily get you a B swap.

That's a pretty nice hole in the oil pan. I threw a rod bearing in my JDM B16 about a month or two ago. I got myself a nice quarter sized hole in the front of the block so I'm building LS/VTEC now. My oil pan only had a small tear in it, enough to drain all the oil, LOL. Haven't taken it all apart yet to see how bad I fucked it up but when the **** blew I had sparks flying from under the hood. My water pump siezed during a 6hr Enduro. The rod bearing went very quickly after that... Yeah with 3 grand you should be able to fix it no problem. Like said you could find a new motor from a junkyard or someone who did a swap for a few hundred bucks. Spend the rest of the money on building up the bottom end a little so this wont happen again..

WTF....noobie with a chip on his shoulder. You'll get far with our name calling.

 

You can get a B16A for about $2250. Thats a complete change over. All you should need is small misc. stuff (radiator hoses, plugs, wires ect.) You can find a DIY for the install if you have the right tools and a garage or at least a nice driveway. Good Luck

 

The Oil Pump on my Y8 failed and a few hours later I had a rod through my block and coolant everywhere. **** that sucked. I'll stick with my Z6

 

Yeah I'm not gonna lie to you about the source of my problems, my speed sensor **** the bed. i never bothered changing and it led to a few too many late oil changes since i really had no idea on the miles.

damn y8's are shitty.... my friend had a 99 4 door lx with the y8 swap in it... he only occasionaly raced it always changed the oil and one day i get a call hey man uh my car died.. he doesnt know much about cars so he gets it towed home and has a huge hole in the oil pan like the one above....

now my motor is a d16z6 and i BEAT THE LIVING HELL OUT OF IT

 

I have a Z6 bottom end with a Y8 head and I love it.

 

Damn, that sucks.

my d16Y7 did that right after i bent the rod...ooops.. haha, if u can get on 3g's, grab up a b16 swap , also i got a full d16y8 from this place Toms Forigin Auto Parts in CT for 350

 

Just get a B16 and call it good...$3000 is more than enough to get it and get it installed...check out HMotorsOnline.com...good engines and pretty fast shipping at a good price...

Pretty much. At least that is what I proved.

Beat the hell out of a Y7 for 150k. No problems because the oil was changed every 3k. Then I said **** it and I didn't care about the motor any more. Went 13k on an oil change and blew up the motor.

 

hmmm all this makes me wanna go out and change the oil again. I always change mine regulary about 3k-4k miles and I use mobil 1 5w30 and pure one filter and it has 147k on it now, also this sounds like a good time to run some seafoam through it
