Both aluminum, let's say. Is there a big difference?

yes there is a very big difference, ebay peices of **** break over time which= bad. Skunk2 and b&m dont break that is what the are marketed for. and B&m has a life time warranty with there short shifters.

Also, the measurements on a short shifter are very exact. A piece of junk like something on Ebay could possibly throw off the geometry of your linkage, leading to transmission damage.

go with something heavy, like steel, and not aluminum. the heavier weight will help you shift easier.

I had an ebay cheapie, it was loose and rattled alarmingly at high RPM's. I got a new B&M steel shifter with pivot assembly now. It fits much better, and has bushings that actually fit, instead of the POS shim washers that the ebay special came with. I would avoid the cheap ones, just stick with stock or buy a good one.

if you are getting a short shifter, i would recommend the dual bend ss from skunk2, its pretty beefy, and paired up with energy suspension bushings, feels pretty comfortable

The B&M and the Skunk 2 shifters are NOT aluminum, they are steel. Steel gives you a nice feel because of the weight. The best shifter (I don't know if they are still around) is the Pacesetter steel short shifter. It is adjustable with a threaded delrin shifter ball and a setscrew to hold it in position. You can have it as short as you want or longer than stock. I have had mine since 1998 and it still works great.
