changing a internal wastegate turbo into a external wastegate?
Hey! I finally know something.
It's done all the time though. As far as I know all you'd have to do would be weld the wastegate flapper shut, and remove that wastegate thingie, and use an external wastegated manifold and you're all gravy.

It depends on which kind of turbo you have. Some turbos have a wastegate flapper that is an integral part of the turbine housing. If so, the flapper must be welded shut and actuator removed.
Other turbos have a flapper that are not part of the turbine housing but simply bolt on as a separate piece. My turbo for example, came with an internal gate but because the flapper was a separate piece, I simply unbolted the flapper and actuator and used an external gate.
Either way, it's not that hard to switch.
Here are some pics of what I'm talking about. <--- can you tell I'm bored today? LoL.

Here's one like mine, well, this is the turbo that I have, you can see that the flapper can be unbolted.

Yes.
Yes.
i have never scene an exhaust housing like that before! crazy how the 3 bolt flange is actually a seperate plate you bolt onto the housing.
mmm...gt28rs
i have the gt28r and i cant imaginea more responsive turbo!
Its really quite simple. All i did on my wrx turbo was weld the flapper shut and weld a flange onto my hf manifold to fit the tial wastegate.
