Default I have a question about stock retainers.

Let's say that I'm running the Crower 404 stg.3 cams (or the GUDE stg.3 cams, their site says "Valvesprings Required" but nothing about retainers) w/ the Crower dual valvesprings. This is for the B18B1 LS engine.

Are the titanium retainers necessary? I'm just wondering because someone's selling these 2 things, but I can't seem to find anyone selling the retainers. If the stock retainers can with stand these aggressive cams (using stock redline), please let me know.

Much appreciated. TIA

Get retainers, but inspect them every oil change for wear...

If you're not going to rev above 8500 rpm, then you are okay with OEM retainers. OEM's are steel and are not prone to wearing as titainum retainers are. And they will fit with the dual valve springs.

I'm not a fan of using stock retainers with aftermarket cams.

I always think its good to buy a well researched valvetrain that has been engineered to work together. Like Omnipower springs/retainers, they are designed to work together and it affirms they will perform with higher chance of survival than mismatched components.
