Default GSR vs. LS...NOT what you think!!!

This is not a which is better for boost post! And I don't want it to turn into one! I'm just looking for the differences between the two drivability wise? Obvioulsy the LS doesnt rev as high...and has longer gears...but what, if any, are the differences in drivability? I'm shooting for 300whp...so assuming both cars had 300whp...whats the main difference im gonna notice? Is one gonna feel a lot faster than the other? I'd love to drive both and decide for myself...but that's easier said than done

essentially the ls is going to be a "safer" setup in terms of compression (ls-9.2:1 gsr-10:1). both can make great power. both are reliable. if you use the stock ls tranny you will have an easier time staying out of boost (depending ont he turbo size; but they do have longer gears).

the gsr WILL feel alot faster with the shorter-geared transmission, but if you swapped a gsr tranny onto the ls the feeling would be very similar. i dont know if cost is of any concern to you but the ls is going to be alot cheaper (maintenance, parts, ect).

good luck man, youre going to be happy with either decision. boost is amazing

LS is going to make more peak torque at a lower RPM than the GSR. The torque is going to fall off quite a bit on the LS after peak torque is made. It's going to take more boost to make power with the LS. You can't rev as high with the LS as you can with the GSR. I think that about covers it? I have a fully built LS with custom grinded camshafts, among other things, and I love it. I would of loved the GSR just as much. I guess I wanted to sacrifice the high revs for more peak torque ... Could of done LS/VTEC but I didnt. Doubt I will regret it.

i have an ls with a gsr tranny, running a 57 trim t3/t4. i dont really get into boost until above 4000 rpms, and i hit 11 psi at 4500 or so. i find this nice for daily driving, as i can easily avoid going into boost and putting the added stress on my motor.

i recently tuned one of my neighbors gsr with the same turbo, and he gets into boost in the 3000's, noticeably before i do.

our cars are making very similar hp #'s, but i have an easy 30 ft/lbs on him. consequently, my car feels much faster, but in actuality its isnt.

yes the ls's lower compression helps provide a lil more room for tuning variation, among other things. cost is the reason (well cost and torque, but mainly cost) that i went ls. with my finanical status right now b series vtecs are too much money for me to be blowing up

I'd go with the GSR for the tranny and head. Throw some lower compression forged pistons and forged rods and you got a sweet motor. It also revs higher and would be more fun to drive imo...

Get an LS then and swap a B16/GSR tranny and head on the motor.

i would love a 9:1 gsr with forged pistons and rods. damn id go apeshit with it. i just tuned a friends hatch with a 9:1 gsr and its decent as all hell. i think the gsr fills the middle ground between ls and itr very nicely, its a decent motor
