Its possible alright. You said you have a 1.4 gl? Is that a d-series? If so you could call up Pierce Manifolds, they sell a TWM manifold to fit dual weber (or workalike) carbs on to a d-series head. For ignition you could use your stock dizzy, but the ecu (since the injectors won't be online) will really retard the timing so you would have to slot the dizzy holes to advance it. You will also need a fpr (holley makes a good 1-4 psi) and a low pressure fuel pump. DCOEs do not like more than about 3.5 psi or else they flood. A better ign. system would be to get an Electromotive HPX or the new XDI -they are expensive $500-$800 for everything needed to get going but its a really good system--timing is adjustable--where if you just slot your dizzy holes you will have locked out timing unless you get some sort of MSD adjustable box. The beauty of carbs is the simplicity but webers are getting really expensive lately--expect to pay $900-$1000 for two 40 dcoes. You are better off looking for some used ones. Do alot of research before you buy on carb sizing and brand--you can still get mikunis, sk racing, dell'orto, oer, keihin, or even Lectron carbs (Lectrons are not a good first carb though) You are probably best off with a weber dcoe as a first carb, as alot of people know how to tune them properly and jets and parts are available everywhere. Hope this helps.
