I passed emissions today! NY
I just passed emissions on an obdII vehicle. Many of you guys will have problems in NY if you don't keep your stock ECU.
Well since my stock ECU has been out of my car for a while, I decided to swap everything over.
You need to swap plates, registration stickers, gauge cluster (for milage purposes, because the milage entered gets sent to the DMV and recorded on the title) and the ECU. Then make sure the vehicle being tested has not, or does not have any check engine lights. Make sure you find a shop where the guy is cool, but most won't check for the vins to match from reg. to the vehicle. When I got my car tested he didn't even check if the VIN's matched. The test just consists of a reg. scan and the usual blinkers, seatbelts, etc. and then a plug into the OBDII diagnostic port. Then your done!
So if you live in NY, DO NOT sell your stock ECU. If you do, well, I really don't know how you'd pass.

You really don't need to keep your ECU or do any of that...its a lot easier.
Just have your registration in your hand, know your mileage and know the person inspecting the car.

Well when he plugged it into the computer it said something like verifying obd.......and i guess thats right, all the info about my car came up when he scanned the registration, not when he plugged it into the computer.
