Boy am I up a creek!
I just found out that my state has passed a law prohibiting me from doing an engine swap! Well, I found out a bit too late as the swap is already finished, and the law is almost 2 years old. What this means is, my obdII car cannot be tested with an obdI motor for emmissions, since the diagnostics won't communicate with my ecu. What can I do about this? Is there any possible way around this by altering the vehicle, short of putting old motor back in???!!! My emissions already expired, Lord, I hate this state!

in every state it is illegal to convert back to prior emissions standards on a road driven car, and then on to pof that many states have hteir own laws. if its originally equipped as an obd2 they will not usually be allowed to test with a sniffer, and jsut wnat to scan the ecu. i suggest shopping for a place you can buy your inspection from.

i know somne states u can swap out the motor of the same yr or newer into the car. ig: if the car is a 96 u must have a 96 or newer engine with all the emission items in place such as evap and things.

usually, if you can swap over all the OBDII emissions equipment over to the OBDI motor, you can at least put your car back in the right OBD category. from then on, it's just a replacement motor. but the laws vary by state. you said it was illegal to do a swap at all, but i would check some more into that. talk to a reputable shop in your state and see what they have to say.
and best of luck man!!!

I'm not saying the likely hood of anyone checking. I'm saying in the LAW does it say that its allowed? I live in VA and its the same way, no one will ever know or check but in the Law its not allowed.

No, there is no law that says it is allowed.
Laws don't work that way however.

Not starting a pissing match but if you went to a state inspector(a legit one) and told him that you have a 93 motor in a 2000 car would he care?

Re: (walker111)
The thing is, in connecticut on obdII, they hook up the scan tool. Since I have an obdI ecu, it gives a "link error". With a link error, they will know something is amidst. Either way, the car won't pass, but will they pop the hood and check? I think probably not. I don't know anyone that does the inspections, and it's a bit late to make a friend of one enough to pass me. I'd put the f23 back in, but I sacrificed the harness to build the h22 one.
