its a h23 built for turbo(lowered compression, forged pistons & rods) but havent installed yet. I wanted to break the new motor in and using an autometer fuel/ratio gauge, when the motor is given gas the gauge stays on the lean side and water temo gets a little hot. At about 35 mph, the motor knocks(i guess detonating before the spark). I planned on upgrading fuel system later when i installed the turbo, but maybe i need to change something now.

First the automete a/f gauge is nothing more then a light show. Get a real wideband o2 sensor if u want to monitor a/f ratio. next go get a compression/leak down test. Is your timing right? what gas u running? how old is it? You basically need to take your car to a shop and have them fix all of it. also what code are u throwing?

flip.....this is the same setup as you replied to in the forced induction section about uberdata

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1311161

i just havent gotten a chance to put the turbo and profec on it because as soon as i went to break it in......i get this knocking. Im going to check compression tomorrow(dont really need leak down unless compr. is bad). Timing seems to be fine. Running 92 octance gas just put in three days ago. Im not sure what code im throwing because i dont have a diagnostic comp. here and now im scared to drive it to the shop to have it checked( and its not like its throwing a light blinking x amount of times etc. etc........it just kind of comes and goes). Ill get a chance to look at things a little more closely tom. and let you know. Is there anywhere i can get a wideband for a decent price. I believe the cheapest i saw was 300. Thanks for your time in trying to help.

oaky - i was thinking the motor was running lean because of the symptoms, but when i pulled the plugs 1 &3 were extremely black(rich). Checked the compression and got 220 on both 2&4 and 210 on 1 - 211 on 3. Should the compression be that far off on a new motor? And could just running rich cause the motor to knock like that? Now the car wont start at all, but i didnt take off the coil wire at first, so im thinking its the coil i burned up. Ill put my stock one back on today, but is there any was to check the ss blaster coils for function?

put my stock coil back in and she starts like a champ. So.......guess i have to buy another ss blaster coil. I still need to figure out whats up with the compression though _ i posted the compression up above that i got with about ten miles on the motor_ im having a shop put on hondata s300, precision 1000cc injectors, p06, and tune it. A couple of shops said dont worry about that little bit of difference in compression right now. I was told not to worry about breaking the stock motor in, just put on the turbo, tow it to their shop, and let them tune everything right off the bat with a wideband. One shop though, said that its was too much difference in the compression. They said they wouldnt do the s300 and tuning if compression wasnt even across every cylinder. That was only one shop out of five though and again, even though the motor has about three hours of running time on it, it has only been driven a maximum of ten miles under a load. Any suggestions?
