B16a cam timing?NEED HELP ASAP

Default B16a cam timing?NEED HELP ASAP

wassup guys i finally got my head back from machine shop, and i want to know how the flashes on the cam gears are supposed to allign.the machine shop said its on timing but i highly doubt it cause the fleshes say up but they are pointing down.cam someone please tell me where they are supposed to point thanks in advance

on the cam gears there are arrows and marks.

First make sure your crank is at TDC, make sure you line up the mark on the lower timing belt cover with the crank pulley. If your unsure what marks are what then here's a picture.



once that is lined up pull the valve cover off and look at the cam gears, both arrows on the gears should be pointing straight up like this.



once that's done you've gotta redo the tensioner and here's a really explanation

That tells you how to redo the entire belt but it also shows how to redo tension, just FYI it's a bitch sometimes so take your time.

Default Ignition timing

The white TDC mark ^^^^ is for the engine timing. However, the grouping of three marks are for the ignition timing which would be turning your distributor with a timing light. You're aiming for the middle line preferably.

thanks alot guys got it running, now i got another problem. i got very big loss of power,whitish/greyish smoke outa the tail on accel and between shifts. checked timing its good,oil/water checked its good no mixing, spark plugs are grey though. someone please point me in the right direction of what to check first and stuff thx in advance

forgot to include that this all started by me downshifting 5th to 2nd i got no rev limiter so it just blew,got the head rewelded and rebuilt

You bend the valves? They check the guides? Sounds like you have some oil consumption issues.

i shattered 4 valves and bent the rest they just werent in there lol, they rewelded the guides and chips and its been vacuum tested and everything. i used a 99 si head gasket this is a 1st gen b16a...

I hope you mean they replaced the guides. If guides weren't replaced, oil could be leaking through the guides into the combustion chamber. Also, did they give you new guide seals, they should have...

Man it probably would have been cheaper, easier, and take less time to just buy another longblock. Good luck with your rebuild.

ya the smoking stopped guys and its gained low and mid power alot but VTEC just isnt the same, all it does it start yelling too much intake noise and lags after 7K

Sounds like you have a restriction in the exhaust.

i got mugen 4-1 header and 2 1/4 piping to magnaflow exhaust its the same thing as it was before i overevved it but maybe chunks of **** in exhaust now??
