I am changing the headgasket on my dads cx hatch. I know how to change headgaskets but the last time i did it was a long time ago.
I am putting a new thermostat in and maybe a new timing belt as well. Judging from this manual it says to replace the timing belt i need to pull off the crank pully? To even loosen the belt i need to get teh lower TB cover off and that requires removing the crank pully?
Is there anyway to remove the cylinder head without removing all that bs with timing belt? Can I just loosen the cam gear and slip it off the head, pull the head, replace the gasekt and slip the cam gear back on, never removing the tb from the cam?
I just remember last time i replaced a headgasket i didint need to pull the crankpulley.
Thanks for any help!

Yes, you can do something similar. Just loosen the timing belt tensioner (14mm on lower timing belt cover) and slip the belt off the cam gear. Unbolt both manifolds and take the head off. You should be able to do it in ~30-45 min...
I removed my friend's cylinder head yesterday without removing the timing belt. All I did was slip it off. Set everything to TDC and slip it off. We'll see how it is to put it back on.
yea when i did my head gasket i sliped it off the cam gear never touched the tensioner. i put everything at tdc and put a mark on the cam gear and timing belt to make sure it all ligned up. getting it on requires some more efort but it can be done. you wont need to drain the oil but you will need to drain the coolant. its really not that hard. took me about an hour to pull the head and a little over an hour to put it back on after i cleaned everything of course.

ok so i got it off, put a new headgasket on, and put a new thermo in, drained all the coolant and oil cuase they were polluted, refilled everything and tightened evertyhing down.
She starts up fine, runs fine but there is coolant squirting out of a metal line behind the head, it has a rubber hose that leads to the back of the Intake Manifold.... the metal nipple has like a pinhole in it and coolant is squirting out of it... What should i do? I was going to try and get some jbWeld and put a tab on it and see if that fixes it since its literally not even visible to the eye, you can only see it when coolant is shooting out...
Thanks for any help!
