Tom, 92HB_HB, Dustin, Arturbo. Does anyone know if I can swap turbine housings?
My T3 turbine housing (the standard one with the 5 bolt configuration) has always leaked from the flange on the downpipe. The bolts always fall off and I lose them and its a PITA to tighten them. I want the 4 bolt turbine housing configuration (im sure you have all seen them or have them) and swap it to my turbine side then match the flange on to my down pipe.
The Turbonetics catalog shows that they sell the housing and downpipe. If I could do this it would solve all of my leak problems. Will I have any balancing problems or is it pretty straight forward like removing the compressor side?

I agree. But I would still have the problem of losing bolts due to them getting loose and falling off. And the bolts would still be hard to get to.
I'm not sure how you expect 4 bolts to be any less likely to fall off than 5, but yeah you can theoretically swap the housings as long as you stick with the same stage wheel (stage I, II, III, etc.).
Funny guys but nope. The design has a flaw because there is one bolt opposite to the three. The pressure is not equal i.e one vs. three and the one bolt pushes out while the three remain and it falls.
Maybe its leaking because it's warped..?? Anyway, the housings can be changed, according to the Maxrev fella on the board. Just be sure the stages are the same. On a side note, I haven't lost any of my 5 DP flange bolts, and once the car warms up all the leaks disappear.

u can swap out the housings but be careful which housing u would order if u do... the 4 bolt-housings in the catalog as far as i see are labeled as #8 and #10... those are not t3 housings! they have a nice design to them but the inlet portion of it does not match up at all to the t3 flange... as well as the inlet hole being differant... if u get the right t3 housing though with the 4-bolt pattern on it... just bolt it up and everything would be fine...
personally i would just use the same housing... put a gasket or some silicone in between the housing and the downpipe flange and use some a little loctite on the bolts... as much of a pain hte *** those 5-bolt housings are... they work...

Turbonetics does have a 4 bolt design but its not like a stage 3 .63, its something very small. Now, from what I hear Turbonetics will be realeasing one very soon, but I dont know when.
Call Robert or Kevin at majestic turbo, he would have so much info on that. http://www.majesticturbo.com

Ok I see why I was losing bolts....one of the holes on the turbine is stripped. Now I got to either buy a new turbine housing or have the thread rethreaded. I guess rethreading is the way to go. I still believe that the 4 bolt configuration is better than the 5 bolt.....I dont think the radiator has to come out to get to down pipe with 4 bolt configuration.
