Default To turbo or not to turbo....

Ok, here's the deal. I've got a 94 gsr with 111K on it but she purrs like a kitten, i've been really pleased with the way she has ran since I've owned her. Well, i'm graduating college in may and I was wondering if it would be worth it to throw a turbo kit on the car if engine diagnostics check out ok. What turbo kit is the best deal? Exactly what else would I need to do to safely run 7 psi? Nothing crazy, just a little extra kick that's all.....any suggestions are appreciated..thanks.....

Turbo it. Get the Drag Gen 3 kit. You'll be happy.

Yes you will be happy until you get used to it and want to turn the boost up.

Don't do it!!! You're gonna get sucked in like I did! It's like a drug, I tell ya!

Let's tally up this month's purchases....AFTER the ~$3400 turbo with goodies:
Pistons $550
Rods $330
Used ITR LSD $475
Block Guard $100
Injectors $270
JDM Final Drive $100

Then you're gonna want to fit in and get some lightweight wheels = $800

Follow suit again and get the OEM side skirts $200
Used 98+ front end $450

Oh man...it never ends!

And, I didn't even pay for the labor for the machinist who had my head, crank, and block for the past 2 weeks! $Priceless.

That's right.

But turbo is soooo nice though. Umm....I say go for it.

Something for "just a little extra kick," eh? Ahh yes...just get the DRAG 3, a clutch. a good exhaust, excercise a LOT of self control, and leave it at 7 psi. Awww... who ya kidding? Throw in some JE's, Eagles, and a Hondata and make that biotch scream...

My D16Z6 has 200 kilometers on it. I going to be pushing boost in a few months when the snow decides to pack it up and move out.

Go for it man. But like the guy's say, stay safe at 7psi till you gots the goods to handle it.

You might want to befriend someone here on the list also who has this turbo thing down path so you can have guidance and a good technical source. Also beware who you buy from, where you buy it and who puts it on.

Good luck.

Ok, so the drag 3 kit is the best for running 7 psi? Do I need bigger injectors? As for the install, i would have my good friend help me out, he's been a mechanic all his life and has done a few turbo setups before..

Frost94GSR, definitely get a compression and leak down test before making ANY type of decision on the motor.
But as far as going turbo, I would really suggest checking out another turbo car or turbo honda if you can find one. The decision is more involved than slapping on a Drag iii .... and Hell no, I would not waste a Drag kit on a stock bottom end, much less run only 7psi.... What a waste of a nasty turbo !
Greddy would be more your liking, but as said b4, get your doors blown off by another turbo car...
or worse yet, some hatch with a b18c with bolt ons... and you will be counting your milk money to buy a boost controller !
