turbp q's (search-n/a)
i was just wondering what getting a different turbo would do for your car. suppose a car which is currently running 8 psi received a different turbo what kind of a gain could i expect(this is a general to all scenario). because the car would still have to run on 8psi, so what does a different turbo do. 8 psi is 8psi right. what are the different types by design, and the pros and cons of each. i know a smaller turbo spools faster but yields less boost, and vice-versa for larger ones, so why do people change their stock turbo for a larger one only to run the same amount of boost? does this help? thanks.
8psi is definately not 8psi. 8psi on a smaller turbo such as the tdo4h-15g that is on my car flows less air than the td05h-15g on the DOHC turbo kits. When sizing a turbo kit, it is best to look at what kind of powerband you want and what your top power aspirations are. Also check on compressor maps and efficency when picking a new turbo out.
think of two pipes, a 1" and a 2"... now u can force air thru the 1" at 8 PSI, and then force air thru the 2"at 8 psi... The 2" will have more flow, or CFM. Same idea which small and large turbos.
