Default Rev question

Yeah so, when driving in 5th, i can floor it (literally) and have it not even go above 2500 RPMs, and it doesnt even feel like you're accelerating fast, anyone know whats wrong? ECU?

The car's a 93 civic DX coupe

the car runs and everything in 5th, but what i mean is like, if you're driving, everything's good up until 5th gear, acceleration is good, revs fly up if floored, but once you're in 5th, max revs is around 2500-3000, and it doesnt go above that, even if the pedal is floored, it seems like it doesnt even accelerate much, i'm not sure if it's that im shifting too early, or something with the engine?

Maybe it's because it is a weak engine. I have a 98 coupe with d16y8 and when I'm in 5th gear I can floor it and it takes a long time to accelerate, I mean a LONG time.

LOL. You must be new to honda. You don't much have torque or horsepower... What do you expect?

On a level road it should be going up very slowly if you're flooring it. When I had a DX tranny on my DX motor I'd have to drop it into 4th and get her above 65 then cruise in 5th.

That made my day.

Yeah, the D15's are the weaker of the honda lineup, and the dx tranny is one of the longer ones.

Low torque + long gears = Bad Acceleration

If I may interject. My friend has a DX also, and the annoying thing about it is it's rev limiter. If your 5th gear stops you from going past 2500, check your speed limit. He cant red line 4th gear because the DX speed limiter limits it at 120 I believe.

If that didnt solve the problem or properly address the question, well then grab a B18c and enjoy the road.

lol, i would love to swap a new engine in there, but its kinda hard to swap anything when you make 6.75 an hour and your employer sucks **** at life and doesnt give you any hours.
