Default Which clutch should i go for.... ACT or Exedy for b16?

Hi, i am in need of a clutch and in the UK we dont have much choice, Their is a HELIX, ACT or EXEDY, i am after a full face clutch as i want good daily driveability and a clutch that handles abuse of launches. Dont really want a clutch with pucks as daily driving would be a hassle.

Anyone had any experiences with any of these clutches? if so have you had any problems with them?.

I am going towards the EXEDY organic plate one at the moment as it is slighlty cheaper and have heard it is very good, have not heard much about the other 2.

any help would be great

ACT 6 puck unsprung on daily driver EG/B18b =
Clutchmasters pp + generic 6 puck sprung disc + daily driver DB8 GSR = (not too bad, not too good)
Excedy oem + daily driver DB8 GSR = (comfy)

I agree i have a 6 puck sprung disc in my car (i dont have a choice) and it sucks to drive every day, just go for the exedy oem clutch there a bit stronger and have great streetability.

I had a ACT before and it sucked to drive it around town. I have since then gotten the Nopi Clutch by Competition clutch, the Karbonite series, and it is awesome. It is flexible for driving and cruising, but bites hard when I come off the line when I autocross. It's a bit more than the Exedy organic clutch you are looking at, but so far it has been wonderful.

i have a daily driven gsr hatch w/ 6 puck act w/hd plate. i think its fine. its not as bad asi thought it would be. but if you dont have much done to the motor might not need to go that big. should be able to go with act street disc with hd plate, and should be a lot lighter, but hold just as good.

I have only used ACT clutches, never felt the others. I have no complaints about ACT, grabs hard and easy to drive. Im using heavy duty pressure and full disc on my street EM1.

I have an exedy clutch on my b16 del sol and I love it clutch is not too heavy in traffic. Its just a good daily driver clutch as well as a good clutch for the strip.

I have an ACT HDSS clutch on my B18b, I really like it for driving hard. Also a friend has it on his almost-11sec stripped LS-VTEC eg, lasted many drag runs (still in use). Pedal feel is stiff but great (besides when you have a sore leg), and can be driven smoothly with an extra bit of finess.

Not sure about exedy, but any full-face organic better than stock will be fine. Except heat-fading kevlar.

i recently fitted the act street clutch to my vti lookin for big improvement over oem with similar feel to oem. pedal is lot stiffer than i was hoping (about 30-40% more) and isnt the best for daily driver. suppose it'll just take me some time to get used to it.

i have the exedy oe replacement clutch kit (itr) for sale which would be great upgrade for a vti with similar pedal feel to oem.

ordered 2 kits as needed it urgent and fitted 1st that came. kinda wish it was other way round now

dont get me wrong, the act is awesome but increased pedal effort takes some gettin used to. im in manchester if ya wanna collect or i can post the exedy if interested

ya, occasionally around the streets and always a few burnouts here and there. Holds nicely and you can always get that good little 2nd gear squeal!

I've had ACT and Exedy, and I'd say go with the Exedy Oem.

I think i will go for a ACT HDDS Clutch as it seems more raw than the exedy and the abuse my cars suffers i think this clutch could take it.

Can anyone recommend a flywheel and what weight to go for, thinking Xact ACT flywheel, Fidanza or Spoon.

Have heard bad things about fidanza as they are made of weak material, apparantley?? is this true

cheers for all your help

Fidanza works fine for me. I have the 8lb one. They have a replacable friction surface, and they're not pricey

Otherwise, if you want more durability at the cost of weight, have Jerome Soh shave down your oem one. http://www.sohfast.com I'm rocking one of his flywheels in my eg/b18b, works great.
