Default Heat Shield

I searched and found nothing relavant.

Plain and simple, I cannot get the heat shield off of my header. The bolts are on thre good and every time i try to get them off they start to round, which i dont want to happen. I'm sure some of you have had this very same problem.

What do you guys think the best solution is for taking off the heat shield. Should I just try to cut the bolts or what? I tried using some WD40 to help losen em up, but it didnt work. Maybe some "liquid wrench"?

Thanks

Use a six point socket. 12 Point sockets will round em off. And use a breaker bar so you get more leverage and plenty of WD-40.

don't use WD-40. WD-40 is good for and initial lubricant but it doesn't penetrate like you need it to in this situation. Go to the parts store and PB Blaster. Thats stuff eats away rust. I use it everytime on rusted nuts/bolts. Spray it on, let it sit a little, then break them free. Trust me, this stuff works great, much better than Liquid Wrench. I know because I bought Liquid Wrench once and it didn't help at all. Then I bought PB Blaster and have gone through 2 cans since. Just make sure you use it in a well ventilated area because PB Blastic really swells.

I agree though, don't use 12pt sockets on anything unless the bolt head is a 12pt, use 6pt sockets.

thanks a lot for the quick responses guys

and on a side note, i wasnt using a 12point, it was a 6 and ti fit snug, but i guess the rust is so deep intot eh bolts it started to sheer off when i put it under pressure

Do you know if Advanced Auto Parts or a Wal-Mart might carry that PB Blaster?

That's like all that's around here

Liquid Wrench worked for me, it PENETRATES into those tight places. j/k If you can't find PB blaster I would use that.

it snaps on i think

you just lock it from either under or over the barrel and it should snap into place

are you saying the heat shield "snaps" to the header? umm...no. It's bolted on there.
