It really depends how you drive and where you drive....

 

Eat tires? I've never once heard of an LSD transmission being hard on tires.

Actually.. I think the original question should be when the LSD is super aggressive.. will it be hard on tyres..i have been driving in some nasty places..with a 2 way.. hell the tyres spin and **** and causing a lot of rubber to be gone on the road..

now im back with a stock lsd...

 

I think bad camber will eat your tires faster than an LSD tranny.

camber does not eat tires, excessive toe does. and a oem lsd will have no effect on tire wear either.

 

Toe is the worst for tire wear.. but camber still eats up inner tires..

if you had 0 toe and 5 degrees neg camber and was burning out everywhere, then yes....

I had a JDM b16 tranny with LSD and it had no negative effects that I noticed on my tires, after 6 months of owning that car with the LSD tranny there was no more then normal wear on tires.

 

lsd isn't hard on tires unless you have 300-600 whp and can't keep you foot out.
unless of course the diff stays locked then I could see where it would be harder on tires but that would be part failure and you would know because you couldn't turn w/o screaming tires.

I think what he meant is that if it's locked, you're fucked (especially on FWD). Think about the car turning around in a full circle with the wheels cranked in one direction the whole time. The inside tire will turn slower than the outside tire, or will travel less. If the diff is locked for some reason (failure I guess) it'll try and spin the inside tire at the same speed as the outside tire and cause hopping and make the tires squeal. If anyone here has ever driven an old Jeep, they know exactly what I'm talking about.

 

But arent we talking about a working LSD?
left and right tyre will be unevenly wear in hard driving.. slippery surface to be exact.
If you have a LSD, try drive it in rainny day, go thru pot of water in one of your front tyres.. you will know why its eattin up lots of rubber..

 

if you're spinning your tires all the time. or are you talking about the limited slip part?
