Default Difficulty shifting into gear - 2001 SH

Ok guys here the situation. I found a few posts about this but no one can seem to determine if it's the clutch or transmission/syncros.

The car is a 2001 Type SH with 62k miles on it. Transmission oil and tuneup were last done at 53k miles. When driving the car and trying to shift with the RPM's above 4000 RPM it will not go into gear. It doesn't grind, it just won't go into gear. I have to wait until the RPM's drop to 3500 or below before it will go into gear.

The car has the original clutch which I did learn on. Picked the car up with 38k miles on it. If driving the car normally and shifting right around 3000 RPM's the transmission goes into gear every time. Every now and then it does grind going from 2nd to 3rd, but it's not an audible grind, it's just feels notchy going in. So that problem is more of a feeling rather than a grinding sound. I suspect that GM Syncromesh will fix that though.

Please, if anyone has any thoughts or experience please let me know.

Thanks.

Very similar problem happened to me. It turned out to be the clutch. It was hard to put in all gears. Very hard to put into gear at high speeds, had to slow down under 30 miles per hour to shift. Also did have a burning smell. When shifting there was a metal to metal like noise. Finally I could not get it into gear at all and would get a loud whining noise when I tried . I dropped the trans and found out two of the clutch springs were demolished . Put in new clutch and ran perfect.

I had the same problem. It was from first to second with rpms above 7000. I put in the synchromesh and the grind from third and fifth (oviously the synchros) went away, and if I shift around 7800 or 7900 I can get it in and still land in vtec, but that is with a little pedal manipulation. All in all, try the tranny flush and synchromesh, and go fom there.

gm syncromesh isn't always a permanent solution. It works great for awhile for me, but now it feels like it used to
