Default Yet another OBX Twin Loop muffler review Pics and sound clips soon to come.

After reading the other review of this OBX Twin Loop on HT I decided to take a chance. After all, the exhaust that was currently on my car sounded like poo (was starting to get that "bees in a tin can" sound). So I shelled out the $100+ and it was on its way.

It arrived and I was greatly impressed with the quality of this muffler. All the welds looked great and it wasn't as heavy as I was anticipating.

When I installed it on my 94 RS this morning, I did have to twist the muffler ever so slightly in order to get it to sit in the correct spot in relation to the bumper. This is also where the extra long tip on the muffler came in very handy, I was able to really tuck it up and back out of view.

On the first couple of passes in my car after the muffler was on, the butt dyno told me that I still had all of the HP there and the exhaust note was extreamly pleasing. Imagine a sound range between stock and that of a 350Z, the exhaust sounds a little towards the stock end of this "sound spectrum"

At idle there is a nice deep little rumble comparable to a 2005 Mustang Mach I that i just got to drive the other day, it was very pleasing to say the least. Bliping the throttle actually makes it get quieter surprisingly. Ripping through the gears, my car still had that "sporty" sound, but it was still quiet enough so I could hear engine noise. Cruising at 60, you will be hard pressed to find this be be much louder than stock, if at all.

Cliff Notes:
Very impressed with quality, muffler had to be twisted slightly for the tip to be positioned where desired. Sound - a few notches above stock when cruising and idling, hard acceleration lets you know that your car it still sporty.

I also have this muffler on my exhaust set up, it in no way sounds like a mach 1 mustang. I have it on my 97 gsr with intake jdm header, crush bent 2.5 exhaust piping with magnaflow 22 " resonator. To describe it best would be to say that it is extremely quite at idle, And doesn't give u that blat sound at wot. I have had it installed now for 2 months with no problems. IF i had money i wouldn't buy it cause it says obx though

Ok, maybe the mustang was a bad comparison, but it is still very quiet.

Film is being developed as I speak. Crossing my fingers for the end of the weekend to have pics up.

Ok, I got pics finally uploaded onto Photobucket.com. Go there and visit the gallary of VTteg and you will see pics of the muffler and of the install. I realize the pictures are of "outstanding" quality but thats what I get for not having a digital camera.

As you might be able to see, the loop on the muffler hangs a little low, that is because the axle back section of my custom piping needs rework so it exists higher above the axle. When I get that fixed, the muffler should be able to tuck out of view just perfectly. I really like the design of the top entry, low exit of this muffler, allows it to tuck up nice and tight under the car.

Some final comments about the overall sound of this thing. When cruising at partial throttle, you can hardly notice it. I notice that I am actually hearing road noise now when Im driving instead of my exhaust . Definitally worth the $100+ in my opinion.

BTW, that Ractive Tachometer and AEM CAI are also going to be for sale, if you would like to start making offers on them. (The CAI was off a 99 Civic DX).

If you have any other questions or requests about this muffler or the parts, send me a PM or reply to this thread as I will check it often.

Thanks for posting up about the Twin Loop muffler. I have been looking for quiet performance for a long time, but everyone says that you can have one or the other, but not both. I think this muffler will be the way of the future, straight-thru design, but more absorption due to the twin pass thru design. And you never have to worry about a baffle starting to rattle or sounding like bumble bees.

My only question is will it fit on a 2nd gen teg, because ours exit the other side and the piping passes from passenger side to the drivers side at the rear. Quiet performance, now thats what I'm talkin about!

I imagine if you really wanted to make this muffler fit a gen 2 teg, you could cut off the mufflers tip and install it in the same place that the old muffler sat. It might take some work, and may even look kinda funny, but it might be worth a try.

Question about the OBX twin loop for those of you who own one. After a while did it start to rattle? Mine was fine for about two weeks, and then the muffler started to make this awful sound when i let off the gas at about 3-4 rpms.
If no rattle, is your exhaust resonated? I'm thinking this might have something to do with it because my exhaust is not resonated.

I think I'm gonna have to order one of the JDMCARBOY ones, I've been looking at them frequently lately, and I love the exhaust on my car now, but I like the look of the twin-loops better, not to mention even quiter would be awesome (My car is actually really quiet right now). I work at a shop, so what the hell, it'd take me all of a half hour to put it on the lift, cut the old one off, and weld the new one on, plus I can visualize the Y-pipe I'm gonna need once this turbo-build is finally finished, not to mention I'm a stingy bitch, and wont pay for a real mugen twinloop.
