Default Twin Loop Muffler (JDMCarboy) - Installed - Pics - Afterthoughts

Ahrite guys, got it installed this morning.

First impression as the Mechanic who worked on it drove it up to me and revved it, pretty loud. Then again, I am not too sure what is considered loud. This is the first muffler I have ever placed on a car.

I followed what was suggested and got a custom pipe of 2.25 going from the catback to the muffler. The muffler is tucked in securely, not sticking out or anything. It is really long to begin with, so they did a good job in doing so.

So I took my stock muffler back just in the case that I changed my mind.

On the way home, it sounds pretty good inside. I turned off the music and drove it regularly by shifting below 3K. Below 3K, you can sort of hear it when the windows are up. But after 3K, say goodbye to quiet and the f*cker gets really loud. So I just kept shifting below 3K, was never a fan of super loud exhaust system to begin with.

Got home, parked the car, and inspected the work. I saw the custom pipe work before he welded the muffler onto the exhaust and it looked pretty good. Smooth, tucked it, not half assed or anything. I actually like the way it looked, sleek IMO.

Took some pics and they are showned below.

Soo...what I am planning on doing, since I got a full pipe going from the Cat all the way to the muffler and eliminating the stock resonator, would it be possible to get a good aftermarket resonator? Something that will make it a tad bit quieter? The mechanic asked me if I wanted to have the pipe from the stock resonator to the muffler, but I said no, because I thought that it would not make sense to have a stock width pipe going from the cat to the resonator, and all of the sudden it gets bigger to a 2.25 and then it goes to the Twin Loop Muffler. Should I have done what he had suggested? But in any case, the only way to go about doing this now, if I can get a nice performing resonator that will be okay to fit a 2.25 pipe onto. Advice is needed in this portion of the post.

Oh BTW, just like anyone that walks in a muffler shop with the Twin Loop, a smart *** mechanic will pick it up, and pretend that it is a Trombone, lol...f*ckers.

*UPDATE*
Just got back from the shop once again, and bought an aftermarket 2.25 resonator. It is a pretty long one, didn't measure it yet. However, this def. the thing needed to make me a satisfied buyer.

Like mentioned before, this is my first muffler experience on my own car (I have been inside a few cars with aftermarket exhaust setup) and let me tell you, this is probably one of the best sounding exhaust setup that I have ever heard.

Not sure what loud is, but this is NOT loud. I know what quiet is (Stock setup) and it is def. not quiet upon throttle. When idle, it even gives this nice feeling.sounding to the car.

So to put it all in a nutshell.

My setup is:
2.25 Custom exhaust piping
2.25 Resonator
JDMCarBoy Twin Loop Muffler

Overall exp. Two thumbs up. Cannot be anymore satisfied with an aftermarket exhaust setup.

Thanks, they have 2 different types, a 14" and an 18" 2.25 resonators. Any reviews on them? Does it even matter? What is up with the length? Longer means quieter?

Hey, guys, quickly, I just called the muffler shop and they will hook me up with the resonator. They can sell me an aftermarket resonator and have it installed for free. Basically $50 bucks only...should I jump on it? Would it make it sound quieter??

From what I've read on honda-tech, the twin loop is a fairly quiet exhaust (if I remember correctly that is). The reason for it being loud would be since you have no resonator. Add it on and yes it will quiet it down. I'm pretty sure the longer it is the more quiet it will be not, I'm not positive though. I'm sure a quick search will find you the answer.

I have one question? Which brand of twin-loop is that?!

And also, yeah, a resonator will kill the rasp of your exhaust at higher rpms, and queit it down... IMO, I would never have one removed on a honda, but since you are putting one back in .

looks like the JDMCARBOY one, the OBX one is a bit more like the Mugen one. I've considered that muffler. BTW, you don't know what loud is until you have a APEXi N1...holy **** it's loud. Hit us with a sound clip outside the car.

Update my first post with my FINAL afterthoughts.

The resonator is def. needed. SO please, if you are going to be placing one of these Twin Loop setups (Real, Replicas, Doesn't Matter) Get a resonator to match your piping. It is def. worth the few bucks.

Maybe I'm mixing up my exhausts then lol.

And just to let you know, I have an N1 and it is quieter than any exhaust I've heard in person except for the RSR. The N1 is only loud on vtec motors.

Where you smoking crack when you were typing that the N1 is only loud on VTEC MOTORS? MAYBE it's quiet on FI cars....but NOT ONE have I heard that was quiet. I personally own this on my DA WITH a HUGE reso and it's still loud as hell. The RSR would be nice...but I'm still considering the twin loop...I just like how STOCK it looks.

MAYBE I misunderstood what you said and you are referring to the twin loop with that statement of it being quiet...but that last statement makes me laugh. I wouldn't share it with anyone else.

The exhaust looks nice and clean on your car. Isn't the whole idea of the twin loop supposed to be to quiet the exhaust note down?? I know the Mugen twin loop is a very quiet exhaust.

Well it is quiet compared to most cars with aftermarket exhaust. But I have no idea what they are talking about when they say that it is quiet like stock.

He just needs the resonator. The Mugen system has a huge resonator. My car wasn't that loud with just the Mugen resonator and no muffler.

Being that I drive a 99 Integra with a full Apex'i N1 catback I do think I know what I'm talking about. I have video after video of my car and I drive it everyday and my friends hear it everyday. Everyone agrees its the quietest exhaust they have heard. It is deep and mellow. In videos of me running the car at the track, you can't even hear the exhaust. So yea thank you and have a nice day.

Looks really nice - I like it
is this the one you got? http://www.jdmcarboy.com/twinloop-muffler.htm

Very good deal and it looks very clean - that shop did a good job

When i first herd about the Mugen Twinloop i HAD to get it, until i saw the pricetag
My backup plan was the Apex WS or the RSR because im a fan of quiet exhausts w/ loud motors.
Quick question.. How much did everything cost minus labor? I'd like to know how much that set-up costs w/ resonator and all - because i'd rather do that than throw down 500+ for a complete cat-back.

You have 2 options. One, you can purchase your own aftermarket resonator. Best to get a resonator for a 2.25 to match the rest of the custom pipe and the Muffler. Second option was what I took because I did not want to wait for one to be shipped. I asked if they have a resonator for my exact setup. They did, and so I took it. The install for me was free. What I suggest is to do it all at once. I was just lucky that they did not charge me twice.

The labor for putting the exhaust on, cutting the old one for me to keep, custom making me a 2.25" piping and making a hanger since they do not come with one and the resonator is $130. The muffler was $100. So total for the whole setup out the door installed in my car is $230.

That is the one I have. But go to the sponsor for sale section. His list price is $120 but for HT member is only $100 shipped.

I know what you mean in regards of the Mugen branded one. I cannot afford a $900 setup + install and etc.

So for your question, I got the resonator for $50 and the Muffler for $100. So $150 for the goods. The piping was $40 bucks, but that depends on the shop that you go to.

You can save or even spend more on the resonator. I know that kteller.com sells some but for around $70 bucks or so tho. So it really depends on how much you are willing to put down.

As for me, I was able to get away like stated above, for only $230 for everything. So that is pretty good since I am actually very satisfied with the sound and look of the exhaust setup.

cool thanks for the info but i still got a few more questions. where should i look for resonators? keep in mind i dont drive an integra but a 00 civic hatch. i dont want to spend too much on it, maybe something under $100 because im pretty much broke due to xmas and two tickets .
