Default turbo y8 reliability.

how reliable is turbo sohc. i have a y7 right now, but planning to do a y8 swap, and put a turbo with a stage 2 turbo cam and retainers and spring. also i will build my bottom end accordingly. just wondering how reliable is it gonna be....for you turbo guys out there. how long have you had your turbo for?

It all comes down to how you drive it daily, and how much maintenance you do to it on schedule.

No the have a bad oil pump, and oilling system. where it will just not feed enough oil into the motor at high rpms. this is how i blew my 97 ex up. You can check the oil one minute and it will be fine then it will all be gone the next day. but magically comeback a day after that.

Dry sump.

But that's really really expensive.

My oil circulation is just fine but im only running 14 psi on stock internals. The problem that I am having is a leaky headgasket where the boost is leaking into my coolant system, I need arp head studs like the dude said. However, the head studs have nothing to do with the valve cover, thats the valve cover gasket. I have been running 14 psi on the greddy kit on my y8 and it has been fine, except for the coolant thing.
I would say the head studs and gasket are good for 10 psi but if you are going over that you should get the arp stronger head studs, a stronger head gasket, and of course the fuel upgrade, injectors, fuel pump, fuel rail, etc. and tune and it should run good. Mine would also run better if I was not using the crappy vafc to tune. Hondata is what I should be using.

you must not understand how the turbo works. when you are not boosting it is like there is not a turbo on your car. as long as you do not go into boost it will cruise just like your NA car, with a little more torque but essentially the same and essentially the same gas milage.

Man I boosted 8psi daily and HARD on my old 150,000 mile + 90 Civic Si with D16A6. I had to change the HG, yes, but that was only maintenance problem. Also, I drove it 4 hours ONE direction once and it was fine. And that's with a lot of miles and lotsa boost. Boost is so much fun, do it, do it!

Reliability is going to depend on how well it's tuned. As long as you have it tuned by a good tuner after you turbo it you'll be good to go.
