Default Rear Brake Drum Removal - 96 Civic - having trouble

I expected to see a rubber cover on the back to remove to adjust the shoes in to get the drum off.

didnt see any thing. any tips ? I believe the drum has a worn lip that prevents the drum from coming off.

hit the drum with a hammer and rotate it and it should come off.

there are two screw holes in the drum, forgot the size I think 12mm, just screw the two bolts in a little at a time and it will push the drum off, and make sure the e brake is off

I would try a rubber mallet first. Don't want to damage anything. But then again, you could just get some discs instead .

That's true too. Don't know about the size though either . I just happened to find one that fit, but don't know the size.

It's probably a little late, but for those searching the forums, the bolts need to be 8mm in diameter. They don't need to be very long either, I think anything above 1/2" will work but longer ones make for better handles. You definitely want to use 2.

As mentioned, make sure the e-brake is off. If the whole setup is really old, sometimes the shoes carve a channel in the drums. Unless it's the drum lip that rusts and swell. In any case, sometimes you can rotate the drum and still have a hard time removing it.

How do I know that? Ask me what I've been doing today with the help of the Haynes manual...

They are m8x1.25 and recommend that they be 30mm long how ever if you have the same problem I do some wonderful individual already snapped a couple of them off in those holes for ya or the drum is so badly rusted that the threads in that hole strip out before any pressure is applied
