Ok, right now it's 10w-30 oil in there and i know that's fine for honda trannys, but I was going to just drain it and get GM synchromesh since i've heard real good things about it since my fluid is in need of a change...

So how would I go about getting all the old motor oil out and replacing it with the MTF? Just drain it out and thats it? Or how can I make sure all the oil gets out?

If your really worried about it I would drain it, fill up with the new oil drive for a few miles then drain it again. then fill.....that could be kinda expensive though

I agree with him. I'm pretty sure GM has tranny fluid without syncomesh thats a lot cheaper. You could fill it up with that, drive around for a day or 2, then drain it out and fill with the syncomesh. Thats how I would do it.

 

There are two types of fluid. Penzoil / GM / Chrysler synchromesh; and GM synchromesh Friction Modified. If your tranny is in good health, and no grinds, DO NOT use the GM Friction Modified fluid.

ok, so when I switch fluids, it won't matter that there's a little bit of the old oil in with the new MTF then?

Oh, theres a regular syncromesh and a syncromesh friction modified. I knew there were 2.

I say stay on the safe side and flush the tranny with the syncromesh. it'll clean out almost all the old motor oil and any other deposits.

by flush out, do you just mean drain out the old, put in the new, run it a little, drain the new, and put in some more new?

yup, thats just to clean up the extra deposites before keeping the other in there for awhile.

Don't bother. Just drain and fill, most of it will come out. There's very little to be gained by 'flushing' the tranny.

If it's very high milage, and hasn't been done before, maybe do it again in 15K instead of 30; but tranny fluid doesn't get dirty in the same way as motor oil does.
