vtec not pulling hard!! please help
Aight guys i did alot of searching and i coudnt find out the info i was looking for..i drive a 95 cx hatch with a b16a obd1. wiring good..i checked over a million times. My vtec kicks on you can hear it at 5800rpms but i doesnt pull until 7000rpms and when it does it feels weaker then a sohc vtec. I was missing a bolt exhuast side of the head, top left.. it wasnt there one day and i started leaking oil.. now i did some research and all i found out that it was a bolt to the vtec oil passage ways or sumptin in that nature..its a 10mmx1.0 i had to get one from the parts store just to plug it up..but i wanted to know A.) whats the name of the bolt so i can get one from the dealer if i wanted too. and B.) you think having the wrong bolt in there will effect vtec, if its in the way of the vtec oil pressure was or not doing maybe a job its suppose to do?...cause i know thats the bolt you take out when you want to air pressure test it. other than the bolt problem. the only other things i can think of is maybe my timing is off or maybe my tps..the tps connector is cracked..but the 3 prongs are fine and still make contact...bolt im more interested about the bolt..does it need to be a certain size..caue looking at my buddies SI i saw it was a longer bolt wiht a copper washer..if you know anything let me know.THANKS H_T
Dude, I am getting the same problem but I have yet to have ANYONE help me out on here...I recently took my B16 out of my CRX and put it in my 93 civic ex...ofcourse the obd change so I couldnt use my obd0 (pw0) ecu so I was forced to use the p28 ecu with it I mean yeah you can hear Vtec hit...doesnt pull at ALL and my car idles really funny almost at 0 rpm's and it scares me when I come to a stop because it feels like its not running if it wasnt for my exhaust I would prolly think it would have stalled...but anyways...and the 4 months that I had the b16 in my crx I took it from a stock b16 to a b16 with ALL type r internals and in the crx it was very fast now its nothaving any power at all and vtec doesnt hit like it used to and im ALSO getting CEL so I need to figure out if its timing...or the ecu or what but its making me go crazy
The description of both problems sounds like timing issues. Have you checked to make sure you didn't jump a tooth on the cam gears? Also, did you run the code for the CEL?
okay very first thing

second correct me if I'm wrong here but what exactly makes you think you can run a built b16 on a stock p28 ?
because it idles ?
I really want to say some really mean things but I'm simply going to say your taking a huge chance with a sizeable chunk of money.

for smog purposes the best thing is to get the del sol vtec ecu but hondata on a p28 will be just fine.
Typically anything more than a 15% increase over stock is beyond the ecu's stock mapping to adjust for and you start to run lean I'm assuming your built b16 makes more than 15% over astock z6 motor
Also I know you don't enjoy that 7400 rpm cutoff on the stock p28 and the knock sensor on the b16 cannot be run obviuosly on the stock ecu and the purge solenoid doesn't have a vacum to run from on the JDM b16 IM typically so it's probably throwing the code

Parts #18 and #22 in the above picture. Get them from the dealership... you won't be spending more than $5. If the bolt is the wrong size, it may allow the wrong amount and pressure of oil to flow through the passages. Remember, it's the oil that makes the VTEC work.
