So im gonna tune up my ride this weekend
it's a 93 civic Ex Coupe with 145xxx miles
5 spd
new tranny with 40,xxx miles
lowered on Sprint Springs with Stock Shocks

This is what i plan to do:

-Oil Change, W/Filter
-Radiator Flush
-Spark Plugs
-+Terminal of Battery connector wire thingy (cuz it's all eroded and ****)
-Air Filter
-Fuel Filter
-Clean out trottle body??(cuz i saw black **** in the throttle opening)

Ok Questions:
-Any thing else crucial i forgot?
-Is there some spray you can spray into your throttle body that's meant/safe for it and cleans it good? please name product and where to purchase it in SoCal. or do i have to clean it manually the old fashion way with water and a rag?
...and if anyone has any good tips on changing the fuel filter for hondas (never done it in one) it would be greatly appreciated

There was a thread not too long ago about the fuel filter. Be sure to de-pressurize it a little bit by taking off the gas cap. A little bit of gas will still come out though.

About the throttle body. Everytime I have cleaned mine, I have taken it off and sprayed it down the Berrymans B-12 ChemTool. Then whiped it with a shop rag, and did it again if need be.

I just put plugs in mine, so for a tune up!

thanks buddy, one thing i forgot to ask.....what type of fuel filter should i use....oem? is it better....same with oil filter?

and this might be a dumb question, but when u spray the throttle body, u mean inside the hole where the throttle opens up right?...where the intake piping connets too?...just making shure...dont flame me hehe

 

Yes, OEM filter. One thing you forgot to mention is the distributor cap and rotor. If they're in poor shape, replace them with OEM units. Find a friend with a timing light (even though it's not necessary for cap+rotor change) and make sure your ignition timing is within spec. As for cleaning out the throttle body, intake manifold, and engine, there is only one product I use... It's called Combustion Chamber Conditioner, or CCC if you will. You go to any Chrysler/Dodge dealership with a parts department and ask for it there. It's a spray, you spray the whole can into the throttle body opening while the engine is running and that gets rid of all the crap inside the TB, IM and the combustion chambers. It's to decarbon everything. I understand Seafoam makes a product that is similar to CCC.

whoa thats' good stuff....but ive never heard of that ccc stuff?...can anyone confirm if it's good for hondas too?

 

It's good for all cars, it's just made by mopar.

 

might not hurt to run a bottle of seafoam through your motor as well.

 

Either product will have the same outcome. Make sure you buy the seafoam in the spray can.

 

plz dont use any bosch plugs....people swear theh make there car fast, but stick with denso makes your car run a lot better

True Bosch sucks nuts, but I'd use NGK anyday.

 

plug wires wouldn't hurt either. IMO, NGK's for plugs and wires.

i just changed my spaks like 2 weeks ago with the ngk factory spec ones wriiten on the side of the motor...will plugs really make all that difference?

 

depends on how old you plugs are, but they are cheap, so why not?

 

car actually cranks for "longer" after i got the ngk plugs installed...with the old bosch they seemed to start after 1 or 2 cranks, now like 5

 

Good Stuff! You guys just reminded me to clean my throttle body...haven't done that in a while...

 

also, you might want to try using some Sea Foam and running it through the crank case/gas tank/or whereever else you think you need it. Worked wonders on my 100K+ miles B16

Yeah any auto place will sell it. Its in a tin can and only around $5

We have it now, check parts source and auto value.

 

What part of Canada are you in? We don't have Autovalue in this part of Ontario... I haven't seen it in partsource here either... I'll have to look again.

 

my bet is Canada doesnt have it...

i used to live there and i always got mad how we didnt get stuff that Americans had
