Weird noise coming from engine bay
Ive noticed this noise every since I purchased my car 2 years ago. Im pretty sure its not a bad thing but heres what it is. Usually after a couple of hours and the car is cooled down and sitting in the garage, I hear this sort of vtec noise coming from my engine. Its almost as if my car is hitting vtec while its sleeping. Does anyone have a technical explanation for this?
finally someone responded. It sounds just like that vtec sound, but its when the car is completely shut off. Sounds like a vtec when the car is off. Its weird but interesting.
Im not trying to be an *** or anything but do you know what vtec is? I dont think vtec has an actual "sound". Not on my car atleast, all I hear is the engine and exhaust getting louder. Which is why I would like to know how you hear while its off.

I don't understand either. Try to record a sound clip of it and post it up here. Thats the only for sure way we can tell. Otherwise, I would say your car is switching cams at your vtec crossover while you're not in it or driving it

Stock answer #1: You're waaaaaaay too stoned, man...
Stock answer #2: It's your fan. If you're sitting there, and the car goes "Bwwwuuuuuuhhhhhhhh", there's nothing to worry about.
Stock answer #3: Holy ****...is it really doing that? My god, you have to change a few things right now! Start with your blinker fluid...use 85-grade. After that's done, you're gonna have to replace the V-controller for your VTEC. Make sure you use the one from Enron. Finally, after those are fixed, you need a new balancing spinner for your head. It's an easy fix, so you might want to do it first.

On most dohc vtec cars, vtec engages with a specific note, it's more than just the engine and exhaust getting louder.

I know what sound you're talking about! Ever since I bought my SH I've heard it. When I built my new motor and had cels on at start up it went away. When I got me cels buttoned up it came back. It almost sounds like a little pump prime and last about 2-3 seconds. I've heard it's a few things, abs modulator which I don't think since it sounds like it comes from around or underneath the intake manifold. Also heard it's some self diagnostic check, and I've also been told it's something to do with atts. I just let her hum her tunes, nothing bad is going to happen. When it wasn't doing it was when I was worried. I think it's something to do with the fuel pressure bleeding back off after the car sits but I just don't know. When I start my car my fuel pressure goes to about 52. When I shut it off it drops down a bit but still has pressure. When I come back in the morning and start the car the gauge on my filter reads zero so the fuel has to go somewhere? Let me know if the sound you're talking about sounds similar to my experiences!
shdriver99 you have finally understood me. Finally someone on honda-tech that has knowledge about ludes and is not a e-thug. That is that exact sound of what im hearing in my lude. Thank you very much for responding and answering my post.
I know the sound you're describing but I've never figured out what it is. I've been around a while I'm not new to this whole game even though it says I am here on HT. I blew my motor and decided to go big and have everything done right, starting with getting the FRM sleeves the hell out of my block. I pulled the atts, tranny, and motor myself. I've put mad man hrs in my car but it doesn't mean I'm always right.
When I put my Holley rising rate fuel pressure reg on my code 33 and 43 went away with a bit of fuel pressure. Then the sound came back which I figured was normal! That's why I think it has something to do with fuel but who knows!

i always thought it was abs. Ever since i have had my IACV cell, i havent heard it. But when i was clear of cel's i would hear it every now and then.
There isn't any abs components around where the noise comes from though, RickV pretty much eliminated that I thought! It's just some sort of diagnostic self check I think!
i'd really like to find out what it is indefinitely. My buddies were like WTF was that when it went off in the past. I told them it was a ghost and that my car was haunted, lol.
Think I truely know what it is now!
Check this out, the multiplex control system has a "wakeup" and a "sleep" function to reduce parastic draw on the battery when the ignition switch is off. In sleep mode, the multiplex control unit stops the functions (communication and CPU control) when it's not necessary for the system to operate.
Mode 1 - self diagnostic prime for mutliplex control system
Mode 2- failure diagnosis for the input line of each system for cels
As soon as any operation is done (example door unlocked) the related control unit in sleep mode wakes up and begins to function. Control unit also sends signal to their control units via the communication lines. When ign switch is off there is a delay before the control units go from wake up to sleep mode. If doors opened sleep mode will not function.
I have no idea how I managed to find that but I did. All the people that made fun of you for thinking the sound was like vtec are just as clueless as you were so tell them to go read their helms!
