Default Im a Newb: I installed my NEW act flywheel w/out pilot release bearing!!

Ok like the title says. I have been getting noices from my tranny thinking that it was a bad tranny from HMO. But after looking and doing some search I now know that I installed the flywheels incorrect w/out the bearing. I will be pulling it this weeked and fixing the problem. What tkind of damage might I be looking at if any. The car is running good with no problem. I have been running the flywheel like this for about a month.

are you gettin any kind of noise from the tranny ? i.e. bearing noise? or any slapping/knocking noise when you let the pedal out?

Yeah, the pilot bearing is to center the input shaft in the middle of the flywheel. It prolly just has some play. I would get that fixed though as soon as you can.

How on Earth do you install a transmission without putting the pilot bearing in? That's kind of an important device, seeing as it keeps your input shaft from walking around under hard shifts and/or in the case of a slight imbalance in the rotating assembly.

Good thing you caught it.

yeah im confused... the way you worded it sounds like you put the tranny back on with no pilot or release bearing at all... but thats not possible if youre car is moving... please clear this up

Yeah, I was thinking the samething. Almost all clutch kits come with them and you know something is wrong when you have left over parts. Not to mention when you remove something you always put it back or put a new one in.

Check the input shaft on your transmission for any noticable wear and see if it has any play in it. IT may not have hurt anything but its possible it jiggled around in there.

Yup it is I eye balled it in then I torqued down the pp down to spec. Ya I am getting noices that is why I know I have a problem somewere withing the tranny. After I installed the tranny I thought is was the input shaft bearing. I dropped the tranny a few weeks ago and changed the input shaft bearing. And still had the noice, so then I thought it was the tranny. The ACT flywheel didnt come with the pilot bearing it came with the clutch kit so I at the time didnt think anything of it I just installed the Flywheel thinking it didnt need a pilot bearing. So I guess this weekend Sat morning dropping the tranny will be first thing.
