Default can u test a ecu w/o being in a car?

someone has offered a ecu for very cheap but im thinkin it may not work. is there anyway to tell this w/o being in my car? if i were to plug it in with my d15b7 would it run the motor or would it **** stuff up? kinda need to know asap. thanks

i really doubt there is another way. how cheap is it, which ecu is it?

it will work fine. the only real differance is that p28 is for the ex (vtec). so there are outputs for the vtec if you ever convert to it. other than that its the same.

50bicks for a p28 lucky.

it will take like 5 mins to plug it in, y not do that before u buy it?

I paid $50 for my p28 and it works great. sometimes you just find a good deal. you'll get a cel when you hit vtec rpm range because you don't have the sensors, but other than that it will run your car.

all the plugs are the same right i can just unplug my p06 and plug in the p28 or is there anything diff. about the connections?? if it is bad will the CEL stay on solid?? will the car even start?

if its the same obd, it'll plug right up, and yes a solid cel with the service connector jumped is the code for malfunctioning/bad ecu.

i thought that all p28's were obd1? will the car run at all?

yes it will run your car if the ecu is good. I was making a general statement that obd0's have 2 plugs, obd1's have 3 plugs, and obd2's have 4. I believe there are some hondas in europe or australia that have diff plug setups, but for the most part the harnesses are all interchangable within their obd series.
