Default cage help

I just got my s&w roll cage. The way they have it set up is the rear bars, sits right before the shock. That is a really bad spot. Anyone have pics or advise.

That would be me that Phil PM'd

I have them in my EG. They goto the floor beside the rear shock towers. The seats do still fold up and just enough so that the bar touches the tops of them. I do plan on modifying the bars so that there is a bar that goes from tower to tower sideways and then welding the rear bars to that support, like most of the other cages you will see.
Also with this setup then fitment is probably a 7 out of 10. You will need to grind the ends for good fitment if you get a mild steel cage, and grind a bit more precisely if you get the chromoly (TIG welding) since you cant really fill gaps well.

Heres a thread I made after I put them in. Good luck with your project

whats the advantage to having the bar across the towers & welding both rear bars to them?

If it's like mine, those bars are long and have some flex, the cross tube takes that flex out.

Tommy, whats up my brother

AFIAK there isnt much structural support on the back floor of the car. Im not a chassis guy and maybe they can chime in. But if you look at any car that has had a cage installed by a reputable chassis shop you will usually see this.
I would think that you would want an X brace coming from the hoop and going to the tower support for ultimate support. I wish I would have spent more money on my cage but at the time I was on a budget.....hell, I still am.

That is it Dan. Most of the floor is just thin metal. The shock towers are the strongest part of the car structuraly. The crossbar to the shock towers add support for the rollbar but also stiffness side to side. Tony did it this way on Art's car.

actually under some of the sheetmetal is the unibody frame which is also a strong sound place to mount the bars 2... i go back and forth between mounting the bars to the rear of the car above the frame or to the shock towers... or ill do both

This is true. I placed my rear bars over the "frame" on the floor, pretty much the same place that the rear steel bumper bolts to.
