hey i was just wanting to get some input on my first cage attempt. im getting ready to cage my 94 integra with a 10 point and was just seeing if there is anything im doing wrong or need to do different. i no i way over did the rear plates. i was just trying to tie in the strut towers to the floor plate.

Putting bends in bars reduces their strength and stiffness substantially, ie: the rear stays with bends will provide little strength in preventing the main hoop from folding to the rear. Pull the rear stays and use straight stays.

I like how you did the lower d bar. Did you buy that, or bend it yourself? I've been looking for one like that instead of cutting the tunnel to run a straight bar... I agree with the above poster about the rear bars, but aside from that it all looks good to me..

I think he has the rear bars bent because If they were stright they wouldnt clear the back seats.

i bent it myself. somehow i did it on my first try!

this is just my play car. i got it cheap as hell and took everything out of my integra and put in this car while i did all the work to my integra. personally i hate civic hatch's! i did the cage around the interior hoping it would be easier to sell. but i want to build the integra to run true street. thats why i was asking about this cage so when i built the new one it would be legal

Stick to proven designs unless you're qualified to design one yourself

Definitely don't do bent rear bars again. Designs like that legitimately scare me because the weaker rear supports may fold in a crash allowing the main hoop to fold back. When your belts are secured to that hoop.... yeah, you're not going to like the results.

If you're going to be drag racing, just follow NHRA rules when building the cage.

nhra does not specify the rear bars need to be straight. they only specify they need to go to the floor.

that is what i thought. but i didnt plan to make the bars bent in my integra because it is going to be a race car so there wouldnt be any seats. i only done this because i want to sell the chassis and thought it would be easier with interior in it.

from reading the rule book it looks like the d bar needs to go across the floor and is to be welded to the rocker sill area, not the main hoop. i might be wrong, but i was planning on putting mine from rocker to rocker behind the main hoop with the d bars coming down to to the lower d bar.

no the d bars need to go from the harness bar to a floor bar.the cage will pass tech no problem.bent rear bars arnt the best but they are still legal.

sorry thats what i meant. does the "floor bar" have to go from rocker to rocker, or can it tie into the main hoop??

looks like it might have to go to the sill plates after all. There's a guy in the drag racing forum that just failed because his go to the main hoop.

just wanted to put this info in this thread incase anybody is using it as a reference, check with your local nhra inspector before going ahead!
