I'm replacing my front driver side motor mount on my ek this week. I'm using a 99 si mount because I have an LS motor. Do I have to jack up the motor at all, or can I just replace it and have the other mounts support it, thanks.

Also, anyone know a cheaper place to get the mount than at the dealer???

 

I think you have to suport the engine to change that out. Use your spare tire jack if you dont have one it works GREAT for this.

 

ok, should I just put it under the oil pan with maybe a 2 by 4? someone told me I don't have to support it but who knows.

 

There is pressure on all of the mounts all the time, until you jack up one part of the engine/tranny. To be able to change that mount you need to relieve that pressure. So yes, you need to jack up the engine to do it. Position the jack where ever it will remove the pressure from the mount and still be safe to leave for a while.

first off, which one? the one that's up by the shock tower or the one that the ac compressor bolts to?

the one by the shock tower in your car now is the exact same as the 99 si. the bracket that bolts to the block is different, but the liquid filled piece on the frame is the exact same part. this mount supports a lot of weight so yeah you should support the oil pan with a jack and a block of wood. be careful not to raise the engine at all. put it under there before you get started. jdmshit.com sells the hcp replacement mount for 120 bucks shipped - that liquid filled oe mount sucks ***.

if you're doing the one with the ac compressor, again the 99 si one is the exact same part that's on your car now. then no you really don't need to jack it up. that mount doesn't support any weight, it just prevents it from rocking back and forth. still wouldn't be a bad idea to support the engine though.

the 5 rubber or liquid mounts that bolt to the chassis are the exact same parts between eg, dc, and ek. the only exception is the ek upper passenger side tranny mount and upper drivers side mounts are different. the brackets that bolt the engine or tranny to the mount are different between B series and D series. eg can use all B series parts, ek you use all B series parts except you specifically need the 99 si upper drivers side and rear tranny bracket. if you want ac in an ek you need the del sol VTEC bracket, not sure about egs. actually i think you reuse the upper tranny mount bracket on the D series for both eg and ek .. but i'm not 100% on what an eg does there.
