Is it loud or is it LOOUUUD when the exhaust gases are going out directly of the wastegate and not back into the exhaust?

Can you smell the gases under driving?

bov goes pssshhhhhhhh.....wastegate just sounds like open exhaust.

it sounds like a really loud AEM intake on a NA car. well on mine it does. then my car fills up with a strong exhaust smell. thus my sig. I have too many holes in my firewall so my car always smells like exhaust.

 

Yeah I know which way a BOV and a WG sounds, I use to say the WG does PSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH when hard boosting

 

the wg usually can be just left open wiht slight dump tube pointed down. Its not that loud but it is kindamessy with all the carbon build up.

 

My car with the wastegate plumbed back into the downpipe is downright quiet... I wouldn't be PAID to make mine open wastegate. I can sneak around and get down on it, even near cops and they don't even blink, except for the nice tweet from the GReddy Type S BOV.

My turbolude is obnoxiouslly loud with the open loop setup. My dump pipe is way too short, only an inch or so off the dp. My fmax kit was a custom prototype so some things are not consistent with other kits. I do love how it soots up my hood :thumnup:

When I first got it, I thought that my deltagate was the cause of this horrible sound. It seemed like the wg was opening way too soon, like the spring was bad. I swapped for a tial, no different. It still starts to open after only 2-3lbs of boost build. It's not quiet, it sounds like a deep gargle. I know an ebc will help this, but the money's better spent elsewhere at the moment.

i like the sound and you know the POWER is alot better too
but that in antidisestablishmentarianismpit turbo smell is pricless

OPEN WASTEGATE

 

It's not really that loud. My friends si has an open wastegate that points down to about as far as the bottom of the radiator, and his car is fine. Not annoying at all. Only when he's on boost is it noticeable, and he rarely hits boost cus it's a daily driver and he drives calmly ie. slowly.

 

Open Wastegate is LOUDD!!! I hate that sound, can't even tune in a isolated area, lol you can still hear my car from a mile away, and that exhaust cabin smell after you've boosted!! I don't think you want to run open loop!

 

it's not even that bad. my engine still makes more noise then the open wastegate does.

 

it comes down to prefrence or POWER

have you seen the f-max site they claim like 40 more hp from open wastegate
at i think 7-8 psi. check it out then weigh it out yourself
plus it's only open when you lay on it

 

that Prelude on the site must've had a hella restrictive exhaust or turbine housing...40 hp is ALOT of power to gain from open wastegate...anyways I have open wastegate on my DRAG 3 GSR and I love it...it straight sounds MEAN..,.

 

mine seems to be the loudest out of Direp972 or arturbo's...
more like an open downpipe, if your ac on vent and you boosted a bit, you can smell it a bit...
but enough to scare domestics away..

 

someone i know has an open wg on their si... when in boost the damn car sounds like a bike... except u hear it like 1/2 mile away real well!

 

you guys dont worry about that sound just be glad you dont own a VW VR6 turbo like my buddy, his wastegate opens at around 3PSI on its ways to 10PSI and because of the reverse location everything sounds different, we get crazzy reverb off the firewall and it sounds like a bunch of angry pidgeons under the hood, not much we can do about it as it is too tight back there to really want to do anything else.

 

Super Loud!!! I had a open wastgate on my old GSX and it was louder than the exhaust.....sounds like a dragon's roar(litterally). Scares other drivers and little kids too. I loved it though, who cares about the BOV sound when you got an open wastegate!
