Default Who here is running the EG rad? What kind of temps are you running?

I just installed it on my CRX and my water temp is always atleast 30 degress higher then when I had the stock one installed. It doesnt cool down as easy eathier. It takes FOREVER to get it to 180F when its 60 deg outside where when I was running the stock CRX one I would be at about 200F (fan kicks on @ 210) and I could drive about a half mile and it would be to 160F no problem. Who else is running one and are you DOHC? What kind of engine temps are you seeing?

thanks

Blaze

Arent there a few EG radiators out there, like a dual core and a single core? I've seen the CX ones which appear to be very thin (single core?), and the b16 del sol's have the larger one. Which one do u have?

I have the dual core copper one thats for the SI (got it off EBAY). It supposedly cools better then the alum. one but nobody had any hard #s that I could see. I researched a bit and copper had better heat transfer then alum. so thats the one I picked up.....

I have a eg Fluidyne rad and it seems to cool better than my stock crx rad. Although I don't have a temp guage to base it on the stock guage dosen't get quite as high as it use to.

bump for this post... i still have my oem crx radiator in and its hitting 205 degrees so I am looking for a new radiator. my stock gauge shows that it is running normal but my autometer one shows that its getting pretty hot.

Blaze 45 I was confused by your first post what temperatures were you running with the OEM radiator and what are you numbers at with the dual core half size eg radiator?

its not always the radiators problem that causes over heating the thermostat is supposed to control the temp by altering the amount of flow through the radiator try checking that.

Does anyone have actual temp numbers, other than the position of the needle on the stock gauge? You need an aftermarket numerical gauge to be sure you are "ok" or to show before and after results.

Exactly!

Sorry for the confusion. What Im saying is temps with the dual core half size rad are hotter then the stock OEM one. Im usually @ 150F just crusing around town in 60F weather. Sometimes like 160F. Now that Ive installed the EG rad, I warm up to 180 very quickly (usually hangs right around 180-190 now) and I also have a hard time cooling it down. I could be @ 210 and start driving and within a half of a mile I could be back down to 160 without any problem with the stock single core. I cant get the EG rad to cool below 180 after driving over 2 miles in attempt to cool my car down. Anyone else running an EG rad and have actual temp #s of before and after? Everyone says that the EG rad cools better.... But from what I have read on my water temp gauge, that isnt the case at all...

Could it also be that Im running the wrong pressure cap that causing higher water temps then normal? Im running the 1.1bar cap and the stock one is .9bar....

Anyone else?

Well shoot, I was really hoping for some more info on anybody running an EG rad with an actual numerical temp guage to post up some temps. Today on the freeway 60 deg outside going 70mph I was at like 190. Ive never had freeway temps like that with the old stock one...

If you're having that much trouble, then put the stock rad. back in & see what happens. For the record, Alluminum cools way better than copper, thats why race rads. are made out of alluminum as well as cyl. heads, etc. 210 really isn't overheating, 220 & up I'd worry. Running the wrong press. cap WILL affect cooling as well, it says so in every repair manual I've ever read. I'd say, since you got it off ebay, its probably got a blocked core, if it wasn't new. I'd also check the thermostat, the smaller rad. might require a cooler opening 1!
