Screw the door jams. Strip the entire car bare and have it all painted.

you do get what you pay for, so unless you're comfortable with a "just acceptable" paint job, you should pay a little more.

however, these hatches are NOT expensive cars, so i don't see the point in shelling out $1500 to paint a $2500 car. that's just me though.

they do very poor prep work. the reason why its 800 dollars is because they dont spend alot of time sanding the car or colorsanding for that matter therefore producing alot of orange peel. if you want a good paintjob, do all the sanding yourself. if it were me, i'd mask everything off for them and sand the whole car down to the factory primer and use some filler for the dings and then primer the car with primer/filler and then wet sand til its smoother, then send it to them for some coats of paint and clear coat, then colorsand everything myself to get rid of orange peel. i think its a great idea if you're on a budget, just time consuming if you're prepping your car yourself. but in the end, its worth it!

Yeah, I thought the same. What's a good place in that area? Must have lifetime warranty tho.

Have you personally had a bad experience with them?! I just got my car painted there and it's one of the best paint jobs I've ever seen for a repaint and especially with all the little things that needed to be addressed... Miguel was very professional and patient, they worked with me on everything I asked of them and brought up things to me that I hadn't even asked them about and didn't charge me additional for it. Best $2500 I ever spent. I really hope you aren't talking trash without personal experience.

Tipton Honda in San Diego was going to charge me $1700 - $2K (w/lifetime warranty), but I'd have to remove the windows, door handles, mirrors, moldings, sideskirts, etc. myself. The price was given to me by two different guys there. *shrugs*

Hey, what all did they paint on your car? They gave me a quote for $2500 too for the entire car. I later found out that they had to add an extra $200 to match the doorjambs. So, it would have been $2700 for entire outter shell including doorjambs.

Maaco paint jobs are decent as is their body work. It does have orange peel and occasionally i've seen small specs of dust in the paint, but for the price, i think it's worth it.

From what i've heard if you use body filler they will chip it out and redo it because they can't warranty their paint with it. Something to ask about.

I went from stock Si black to BMW Jet Black and they repainted the whole exterior... I didn't have them do the jams and whatnot because with my car being black originally it isn't noticable. I did have them do some additional stuff like shaving my FM ant., realigning my tailgate and some other misc. stuff. They took care of me for sure! You get what you pay for and it was worth every penny. Not all of us know those little shops that charge next to nothing and do bomb work or have a buddy who paints. For the common person that needs a paint job and has the money and desire for above average paint MOB owns!

I see. I want to go from Honda's Granada Black Pearl to one BMW's green. I really want the doorjambs paint-matched. As far as the engine bay, I'm not too worried about. Do they have a monthly plan? lol
