Default need help picking a motor

ok heres the story....i have a 98 hatch. ive had a b16 in it, and presently have a b16 block with gsr head and itr tranny. its a great motor, but i want more torque and am willing to sacrifice top end speed and revs for it. this is for my daily driven car so i need reliability, and i also have added weight in the rear from a competition stereo. im planning on staying all motor with it. im debating right now between a b18b or b20z. im leaning more to the b20z bc of the obvious power benifits. i plan on keeping my itr tranny either way and using it on the new motor. id like your guys input on this.....its not that i havent search....ive done allot of that, id just like some present day opinions from you guys as well.

add a JRSC it adds lots of bottom end power and torque, it easy to install and maintane and is reliable. Plus you can get a used kit a lot cheaper than trying to swap out for another engine.

b20 is good but b18 will do just fine. i had the same setup but with a b16 tranny 7lb flywheel and stage 3 clutch. i went with the b18a bottom cheap with low miles so i really couldnt pass it up. good luck

well doing the swap isnt a big deal....i have to pull the motor anyways bc the tensioner bolt on the timing belt is stripped and i cant change it unless the motor is out. have any of you guys dealt with a b20 mated with a type r tranny?

keep everything you have and just swap that b16 bottom end out for the b20z. you have to run an oil line and some other stuff for a b20 / vtec but it's not too difficult. while you've got the b20 block out of the car upgrade the rod bolts!!!

sell the b16 block and it shouldn't cost you tooo much to do.

i say b20 vtec...but i heard its more then just putting an oil line to the head and what not..i heard valve clearances become an issue and of course the obvious rod bolts and what not..CRVtec should be well thought out before just jumping into it espially if you going to "daily" drive this vehicle...

I have an LS right now...and a Vtec head in my garage..i thought day in a day out to vtec that damn LS...but its a hardcore daily driver..so i chose to sell the head and b16 block...its up to you tho..i'd heard amazing things on the B20z-the higher compression one? with the ITR trans...sick torque...

never had H22..but i imagine its crazy in a lil Eg or EK..

Willing to lose high end and rev's, think about a B20B longblock? Around 20hp less than a B20Z, but much lower C/R...maybe turbo down the road?
