walbro fuel pump install -> scared
Whats the deal with the wires just dangling in there and floating in gasoline? That sounds like a ticking bomb?
I cut the harness they provided almost in half, and soddered it to the remaining pump wires...but the harness was still about 6 inches long. Either way, those wires are gonna be submerged. IN the installation kit, they only provide you with crimps which would not keep the connections dry....
I dont get how these wires can be submerged in gasoline??

Theres no air in the gas to make it catch fire. The fumes are what catches fire. So being submerged under gas wont cause a spark. What shocked me was how it keeps a good connection, i still dont get that but i guess its not the same as water. ::shrugs:: its all chemistry and such i never understood it.
Anyway you shouldnt have cut the harness i know in the manual it says to cut a harness but thats for some cars, and honda's arent in that list. As long as the 2 wires arent touching youll be fine though.

Because they give u the harness that plugs into the pump then it goes into two stray wires. YOu have to cut off the connectors on the stock pump and sodder the wires together. (this is on a crx though, do 92+ have a clip on the fuel pumps?)
So i did heat shrink the connections but i dont think they are water/gas proof. Had to use really big tubing and couldnt get it quite tight enough. However there is no chance of the two connections touching and making a spark. So as long as they cant tough together and short them i'm fine? The power wire is ok being subermged in gas? weird concept but i guess i can understand.
Edit: What about fumes from a low tank on a hot day in the sun all day? Then you crank it over and gas fumes meet electical connections?
