D16 Tranny problem/question..
I have an EX tranny from 92-95 with a very bad third gear syncro, grinds no matter what rpm. l also have a spare EX tranny from 96-00 motor that works well. Can i swap out the syncro from later year tranny into the older one? I have a Quaife in the older EX tranny is the reason for doing so. Thanks for you help!
Well on http://www.slhondaparts.com, they share the same synchronizer sleeve set. So, I'm guessing they are interchangeable. I'm going by part # though, not hands-on.
Im 99% sure you can swap out the syncro, and to my knowledge the tranies are inchangeable as well. but im not 100% on that. You SHOULD be able to I dont belive the blocks ever changed on them just the internals.

Yea, i agree, there pretty much the same. Maybe it would be easier to swap out the complete assembly, like the countershaft and mainshaft. Or even better, throw the lsd in the y8 tranny.
Thanks guys, I have to wait until i get home to see what bearing size i have for the LSD. The Quaife site list 2 LSD for 88-99, EX/Si and CX/DX trannys, the difference being 40 and 35mm bearings. All Z6 and Y8 have 40mm bearings so the entire LSD should fit into the Y8 tranny. Just have to make sure I have the 40mm bearing, which I should since it's an S20 (Ex) tranny. fingers crossed.
