turbine shaft nut on compressor side keeps loosening
i don't know why in the hell this keeps happening but the nut on the compressor side of the turbine shaft keeps coming loose/off and sitting in the air filter, and then my turbo wont boost at all. would driving my car a short distance between 10-15vac **** up the turbo (make it spin off balance like my last turbo which i rodded with the missing nut) and why the **** does this nut keep coming loose/off? i tighten the **** out of it like maybe 45-50 ft/lbs and it still comes loose - could it be too much oil? (10psi at idle, 60-65 at 5000+) or not enough oil? im so annoyed with this ****
you better get that fixed. I had the same problem except the nut came off and chewed my compressor wheel to **** and destroyed my turbo.
Good luck with that one.
Good luck with that one.
Did you ever find out what was causing the nut to keep coming loose? I have the same problem I already had 2 Turbos and same thing happen. First turbo compressor got loose and start hitting the walls of the housing second turbo the nut come off totally and beat up the compressor wheel.
The turbo was out of balance and was vibrating and shaking so badly that it backed off the nut. Once you tightened the **** out of it the turbo was even more un-balanced was shaking like a bitch which will back off the nut.
I am the original poster, lost login credentials. Going back down memory lane after my birthday yesterday. 18 years ago this was. Back then I'd just grab any turbo off anything (this was referring to a Chrysler 2.2 turbo off a Lebaron or Daytona). I remember because the exhaust housing used a clamp to hold on the turbine housing, easy to disassemble, but I used everything from T3s off Saabs, 14Bs off blown up eclipses, etc.) Turbos borked themselves pretty quickly, as what I did back then was just weld the wastegate shut on everything and go for the moon until either compressor or engine exploded. I'm sure overspeeding exacerbated the issues of imbalance. Haha. Wow. Crazy how much different I am then way back then. Spent all my money at the Junkyard replacing engines and engines and turbos until I bought all of the ones that bolted in directly and moved on to the D16a1 fiasco. Good times.
