Car grinds when going into reverse, clutch or tranny?
My clutch is almost dead, but I was just wondering this. SOMETIMES when I try to go into reverse it grinds, I dont know if its cause of the dead clutch or could it be the tranny, I pray its not the tranny!

It's a straight cut, un-synchronized gear.

the reverse gear is the only gear with out a syncro, so depending on what gear you were in last, it grinds
just put it in first then reverse.. should be fine, don't need to put it in more then the first gear before going into reverse.
but it's totally normal, they all do that

weird moving the car foward is able to go to reverse? mines dont do that cause if it even moves it grinds on reverse. i just step on the clutch pedal a few times and it goes right in. if not then hold clutch and put in reverse but not all the way only to the point where it wont let you go in then when you let go of clutch pedal slowly put gear into reverse and it'll snap right in.
DONT MOVE! make sure the car is at a dead stop, pedal ALL the way down, then put it in. It tells you to do so in your manual.
It SHOULDNT grind, but it wont hurt it THAT much. just **** around with it and youll find a way thats convenant to you to get it in w/o the grinding

you can do the "forward gear first and then shift into reverse" without moving.
or you can do what i do...depress the clutch for a few seconds and then shift into reverse. it never grinds when i do that.

you can get it into reverse while you are moving as long as you are moving backwards. I know I have done it a few times while rolling out of friends drive ways.
mine really doesnt grind unless i didnt get it all the way into gear to begin with, but sometimes I have to do the forward gear trick before I can get it into R.
