I stopped by the shop that's got my block to snap a pic yesterday. I didn't notice it at the time, but when I looked at the pics today... Check out the gap on the bottom left corner. Is this normal? I've seen pics of other D16 (Z6?) blocks that do not have this issue.



Is this normal? Is this going to cause the sleeves to want to shift in that direction? Even possibly the wrong block guard? I appreciate your willingness to read/help, but I am really only interested in first-hand knowledge/experience. Thank you.

 

Im pretty sure this is normal...I have a built B16 that is turbo'd in my ef and I bought a golden eagle block gaurd and mine was the same way...think about it though the block isnt gonna flex that way(side to side) you should be fine....

 

looks like its been shaved or something..... but I dono too much about D16a blocks.

I'm pretty sure it's not shaved (at least not recently). The indentation on the stock paper head gasket matches the shape. I can't say for certain that the gasket was original, but it looked to be.

Anybody else? I'm sure someone has put a block guard in an A6 besides me...

I think it was $80. Haven't gotten the bill from my builder yet...

Interesting... If most/all D block have that gap, I wonder why the guards aren't designed to fill it.

 

i'm sure your goin to buy a new HG(head gasket) i would get my hands on that and match the NEW one up.. see what happens.. cuz if it dosn't line up right you may be looking at spitting some white smoke or having a coolant leak out THAT side.. .. just my 2 cents.. not 100% sure..

 

Line the headgasket up with what? The gap? The gasket completely covers the gap.

 

If it covers the gap, then you should be all set.. ... once u have it to gether check THAT side of the block for leaks and do a comp check.
