Stop telling him to look for things that do not exist in his car. There is a radiator fan sensor on the back of the block no switch near the thermostat.

guys you need to listen to the man when he says switch in the back of the block. i hae had 2 go bad. if the car is at idle and the fan is not coming on then that IS THE PROBLEM. there should be a two prong sensor switch right above the oil filter undernieth the intake manifold (if you have a stock d-series engine).
Depending on which engine you have, the Thermoswitch is located near the Oil FIlteron a D16a6. It has 2 wires on a plug. You can jumper the plug to see if the fan comes on. It is also possible to test the fan by umplugging it and running a pair of jumpers directly to the battery.
