Well here goes, any help is greatly appreciated:
2 Problems: (Major)
1- The starter. I think its stuck out and will not let the engine move. It happened 2 times so far, when ill be cranking it, and all of a sudden it makes a loud bang and stops. I can still rotate the crank Clockwise but it will not rotate counter clockwise like the engine rotates. So im gonna try to pull the starter and replace with another one- what one do i order?
2- Wiring. This is where it gets weird. When the vtec oil pressure switch is plugged in, there is no spark at all. When it is unplugged there is spark, but the engine will not stay started for more than a few secs. So im leaning on possibly a problem in the hasport harness. I checked, double checked, and triple checked all my connections (I actually didnt have a honda pin puller so i cut and soldered all my connections at the ecu) (Brian mabye if you are reading this you could give me some input, otherwise ill be calling monday
)
So at this point im kind of stumped. I replaced the distributor, and made sure all the plug wires are in the correct firing order, but there is no spark so all of that is irrelevant. Switched ECUs and they both do the same thing with the vtec oil press. problem.
So any suggesstions?
-Todd
edit- I threw a code 15 once too, when i had the vtec disconnected.
edit #2 - found out that a code 15 = 15-ignition output signal system insufficient , WTF? I dont think its the ignitor b/c i had 2 different distributors on the car. I think i threw the code with the 2nd one on. Crap this is getting even more confusing

ohhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
Note to self: check wires four times before cutting and soldering!
OH MAN!!!! I've come across this unfortunately. Only once was it from some bad wires in the harness to the distributor, but I think I have the answer to your problems...
All right, here's where you kick yourself: Do you have a helms factory service manual? That's where you need to start. Live and die by it, it is your GOD!
When you're looking at the plug (as if plugging into face), this is how it pins out, and my guess is you got it backwards:
_______________________
/|17|15|13|11|EE|7 |5 |3 |1 | \
| |18|16|14|12|10|8 |6 |4 |2 | |
-------------------------------------
The EE is where the plastic clip that holds it in is on the top of the connector. I'm pretty sure it's plugging into your face, but I haven't done it in a couple weeks, so double check with a helms manual, and make sure that you have it right by checking the color of the wire and where the manual says it is supposed to be located. the main reason that I think this is your problem is that I have come across this on customer cars before and they exhibited all of the exact same symptoms.

Well if you are correct then yes, i did it backwards, i read the pinouts from looking at the back of the plug. The hasport brochure didnt specify which way to look at the harness so i chose the back. Your way does make more sense now that i think about it. Can anyone confirm which way to look at the plug to get the pinout?

I haven't read my instructions recently, but when I wrote them they specifically said, to use this pinout diagram, hold the plug with the clip up and the wires pointing away from you. I will double check though and change them back if someone has deleted that part of the instructions.

I have my instructions back at the shop and im not working on my car today, my hands are so torn up from yesterday its insane. Ill check them out tomorrow when i go back to work on it. Honestly i cant remember if the instructions tell you which way to look at the plug, im sure i read it but i was really tired when it was wiring time so its 100% possible i messed it up. Thanks for the input though Brian....the harness turned out great!

Check to make sure you're engine isn't flooded with gasoline. Take out
the plugs and see if it can spin freely. Your motor should never "sieze"
during cranking. Also, is the battery flat? Sometimes the starter will
stall w/o enough battery juice (especially when a piston is making
compression against the valves)

#1) You have the diagram backwards -- I did the same. At least
Locash hasn't made fun of you (yet!) It flooded my engine w/ gasoline ,
I had to extract it out of there. Dumped out my header even.
#2) I went to Sears and bought a micro screw driver. $2. Works good.
Or better yet buy the Honda SST. There should be no reason to cut and solder.
I did my repin job on my 88 Std in less than 5 minutes. Easy.
BTW, with the wiring correct it will fire up near instantly. If you're cranking
and cranking, forget it -- something is wrong.
