Need help completing first engine swap... Wont start
So, this was my first engine swap and i picked the easiest one.
I replaced my worn out d15b7 with one with lower miles from a crx
I have everything hooked back up today except for my shift linkage and half-shafts
(just to tired to finish it toni9ght)
Anyway
i put oil and coolant in it and tried to start it
sounds like its sucking air in but the starter isnt coming on
there is just a really low whine when i turn the key and thats it.
what should i try?

Battery is good, my headlights come on bright.
And of course all my other electrical shizzle comes on fine
Ill check my ground on my tranny and the one on my valve cover, sand paper them shiny
are their any other grounds that i could have taken off and forgotten about?
I know the starter is good cus i kept my whole tranny off my old engine, and it started every time (after i kicked the main relay a few times

the low whine you hear when u turn the key is the fuel
pump priming. Turn the key 'ON' & Jump your starter and see if that works.
If it does you got a bad connection between your starter and ign. Check your
fuses under the hood too! esp the IGN fuse.

AHAH!
the little wire under the starter wasn't stuck on its pin propperly
So, it turns over now, but doesn't fire...
Luckily, i know alot more about timing than i do about electrical.
Thank you everybody

So now, it turns over, but won't fire.
Not sure how to tell if its getting gas or not,
i checked all my wires, they are getting spark and the timing is spot on.
Just won't fire.

turn key in ON position , but do not start.. Make sure the pump primes as you should here the relay click on and the pump 'whiz' sound.. if soo move on to the next.. loosen the fitting at the fuel filter that leads directly to the fuel rail, shortest one. Check to make sure fuel is even getting to the rail. if fuel seeps out , you should be good.. next, make sure the injector clips are pressed down and all in the correct order.. next maybe check on the correct order for ignition wires, as you could have them on wrong. happens more then you think haha.. thats pretty much it.. should run

Re: Need help completing first engine swap... Wont start
Damn, im getting fuel, and spark, and all wires are on and in the correct order.
Im going to check mechanical timing one more time.
I did the mechanical timing while the engine was out of the car by putting a long screwdriver in #1 cylender and turning the crank until it was at its highest point.
Then i turned the cam till the "up" was up.
Im wondering, doesn't the piston head reach the top twice during the cycle, once during the compression stroke and once during exaust stroke.
Could i have the crankshaft timing off 180* from the cam?
Should have used the timing marks, but didn't know about them until after i put the belt back on.

No, thats not it, cus i just checked it and its spot on.
So i get spark, fuel, timing is on. Why isn't it firing...
This is more than annoying

did you check to make sure you have all your connector plugged in. one other thing is check the keys on the dist. make sure you didnt put it in backwards. maybe try another ecu.

Re: Need help completing first engine swap... Wont start
do i need the ecu from the crx?
Im pretty sure its an identical ecu to the one i have, and probably wouldn't help any since both engines are d15b7, but im a n00b, so idk

Ok, i just checked my stamps, this is not true.
My old engine is a d15b1, and the ecu off of that
The new one is a d15b7
Will i need a new ecu to get it to fire up?

also, to check if your injectors are firing.
turn the car over for like 2 seconds and pull the plugs.
if you smell gas or they are wet. those are good.
I imagine it should fire up with that ECU.

Re: Need help completing first engine swap... Wont start
The guy told me the engine is from a crx, but the stamp on it says d15b7, which means it came from a 92 or later civic right?
D15b7 is obd1 and needs a different ecu than my d15b1 if im not mistaken
Im pretty sure they didn't make d15b7 for the crx, so the guy lied to me

Do me one favor.. change the cap to 0bd0 and change the plug wires 180* at the dizzy
just for trial an error purposes
