ITR LSD install trouble into Y21 transmission
I have been looking at the schematics for the ITR and B16 transmissions trying to figure out the correct ball bearings and spacers to use for installing this LSD in one of my transmissions. I installed a brand new B16 bearing (80x40x18) onto the clutch side of the LSD and the speedo gear rubs on the clutch housing. Does anyone know the specs of the ITR differential ball bearings? I read that they are 19.5mm thick, but this doesn't make sense based on the spacers that are used. I guess I just need to know which bearings and spacers will work for this setup. I have searched, but my question is a bit more specific. I have a GSR trans case as well and I dropped this LSD into it and it rubbed in that one too.
I had a very similar problem with a ys1 lsd in a J1 case the pattern was good on the gearing but it rubbed on the case. I ended up rounding off the speedo drive casting to make it work. It has been fine for me for the last year of very hard racing..
The speedo gear teeth are actually digging into the case, the edge was a bit rough so I tried to smooth it out a little but it didn't work.
I am not sure which gears you are talking about. I haven't put in the VSS yet to see if it meshes with the speedo gear if that is what you mean. I think I need a thicker bearing, but I am having a hard time finding out for sure.
You have the correct bearings...and yes the case does have to be machined slightly to work properly...
Also make sure you have the ring gear on the right way...Is easy to flip it upside down..
Jeff.

Thats what i was wondering my self ( having done it on a trans before).

The ring gear is not what is rubbing, it is the speedo gear. I know this for a fact.

Seen that before....Where is it rubbing??? Against the diff housing??
Make sure both spacers are still under the diff bearing..If these fell out/slid out...The diff will sit too low and rub against the speedo gear housing..

Yes, it is rubbing on the differential housing, but there aren't supposed to be any spacers when you use the ball bearings from what I can tell. The spacers are to be used with the tapered roller bearings, which I am not using.
