Default Trouble installing ITR LSD into Y21 trans, speedo gear rubs on case

I have been looking at the schematics for the ITR and B16 transmissions trying to figure out the correct ball bearings and spacers to use for installing this LSD in one of my transmissions. I installed a brand new B16 bearing (80x40x18) onto the clutch side of the LSD and the speedo gear rubs on the clutch housing. Does anyone know the specs of the ITR differential ball bearings? I read that they are 19.5mm thick, but this doesn't make sense based on the spacers that are used. I guess I just need to know which bearings and spacers will work for this setup. I have searched, but my question is a bit more specific. I have a GSR trans case as well and I dropped this LSD into it and it rubbed in that one too.

Your current bearing appears to be 1.5mm too small. Call Acura and get the right bearing. Here is a link to that section in an online Acura parts list.
http://www.acuraoemparts.com/d...ch=no

Look at this pic, you mean bearing #17 and shim #9 note on the website there are tons of diff shim sizes.

My point is that I don't know if the ITR ball bearings are actually 1.5mm thicker than the B16 bearings. I have heard that I could use the B16 bearings for this install. The bearing in that schematic(#17) doesn't have the dimensions so I don't know how thick it is. If it is in fact thicker then I know it will work, but I don't want to buy it without knowing for sure.

I hear ya bro. Hmmm no returns on special order always sucks. Ok taking a closer look at the parts list for the USDM 00 ITR number 9 doesn't exist, there is no shim on that side listed. Nor is 10. I believe #11 the shim is where your problem lies. What thickness shim do you currently have. You have a micrometer or = to measure to that degree?

I think #11 is for the GSR, #12 is for the ITR. I only have the B16 shim right now. I am not even working on the clearance on the gear housing side yet. I am having problems with the speedo gear rubbing on the clutch side. It is as if the bearing is too thin or there should be a shim on that side but there isn't supposed to be one.

Scratch that, #11 is the right number but I haven't gotten that far yet.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by annin &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Scratch that, #11 is the right number but I haven't gotten that far yet.</TD></TR></TABLE> This is where you need to start. I would buy the USDM ITR bearing to be sure... Honda PN#91005-P80-E31. Call HONDA not acura and have them check that number. If it is the same as the B16 it will show in their system for the DelSol VTEC or Si civic. If it doesn't show order 2 from your Acura dealer. The it looks like the shim sizes are from 1.0 to 1.75 in .05 incriments after it does .01 up to 1.08. Number 9 doesn't exist so **** it, same with 10 and 12. I haven't personally run in to the same problem your having but I'm trying to use my experience and knowledge (I worked for Honda for almost 5 years, sales plus my side tuning for longer) to guide you to whatever path actually works. I don't know exactly what you need to do but I will walk through it right next to you brother. I may run in to the same problem eventually when I drop a mugen unit in my y21

I know that the part numbers are different for the bearings, but so are the numbers for the shims. slhondaparts.com has the part numbers for the B16 tranny's along with the dimensions, but the acura sites don't have the dimensions on the ball bearings, just the dimensions on the roller bearings.

When it comes to Honda, if the PN# is different, then the part is different in some way. I would say buy the right parts. Ask Bill at HondaCity 414-328-3500 who to talk to at Acura of Brookfield, or call my guy Eddie at Joe Rizza Acura down here. 708-403-7770. Let either of them know you know Adam J. Tell them the guy that worked with them. I bet that difference in part number is a thickness thing.

annin....I am having the same issue right now with the VSS gear rubbing on the case. What did you end up finding out with your ITR LSD in your y21 case?

Thanks!!
