Default Double Nutting

I was wondering if someone could explain to me double nutting your bolts on to your head studs. I got a stud that for the life of me while not come out, and the alan socket part is doing me any good, so i figured maybe double nutting them out will work.

Thanks

You thread 2 nuts onto a bolt and then thread them towards each other, tighen the top one and loose the bottom one at the same time. This locks them together and then you can use them to tighten or loosen the bolt.

Ya that didnt work at all. My guess is b/c the person who installed it either Loctited it or torqued it down to 600 lbs of torque. It has already snapped off an alan socket when i was using my 1/2" wrench. Anyone have another idea? I dont wanna strip the hex.

I'm thinking loctite. Overtorquing it would have just stripped it out (damn aluminum). Have you tried breaking it loose with a fifteen foot long pipe? Give it a quick jerk as gradual pressure often leads to breaking things.

i tried it with a 2 foot one, and then i tried it with an impact wrench, but didnt give it much power b/c i was afraid of stripping it. Are machine shops able to get these out?

Id rather be able to get it out using this double nutting thing, but i dont get how it works. Put one upside down on it, then put another one on it right side up, tighten them against each other, but either way you are trying to turn the stud the same way as the bolt, so my bolt always breaks free 1st.

If it's loctite use a bit of heat to loosen the strength of the loctite.
