Default Wheel Shakes

I am your typical women driver. I have no idea how to do anything but put gas. So my question is should I be worried when my steering wheel shakes when I am slowing down?

it's something to get checked out. the first thing that comes to mind when the steering wheel shakes is that your wheels made need balancing or you lug nuts may be loose. does the shaking only occur when braking? have you made any recent changes?

Default Wheel Shakes

Thanks for the welcome, and yes it only happens when I am slowing down. Usually between 20-40mph. And it shakes side to side really fast. I haven't made any changes but then again it's been like that for the past few months. Thanks for the info.

In addition to rotors it could also be mis-aligned brake pads. Basically, take it to a brake place that you trust and they should be able to help you out. More than likely it's the rotors tho. I'd suggest going to a Meineke because most of them offer a free inspection of your brake system.

I'm going to have to say Warped Rotors.
your best bet is just to take it to a brake shop (midas etc. etc.)

On a side note. (being a female), if they try to tell you your fuel injectors need cleaned just tell them not to do it other wise they will charge you 30 extra bucks for something you probably dont need.

if it's only when braking then more likely the rotors. make sure you go with someone who knows a thing or 2 about cars so they don't try to rip you off. good luck!

dont take it to midas cuz they'll probably "find something that needs replacing" and end up up-selling you parts and services that you dont really need, just like fuglycord said. take it to some place that you trust and you should be good

prisky try a quick test ,,,most likely it is rotors but it could also come from the rear since i don't know what year and model it is could have rotors or drums on back ,,,but when you are slowing down do not use the brake pedal just use the emergency brake trust me it is safe ,,,if the steering wheel shakes when you are only using e-brake you got some rear rotor/drum warpage as well if no shake it is definatelly the front

my rotors are warped just like that, causes a nasty shake when I brake really hard. It's annoying, but I don't have the money to do anything about it yet. Just ride it out

if the shake is under light breaking it could be that you just need your breaks cleaned up. I had that issue with my fronts and everyone said warp, well I took them apart cleaned with break cleaner regreased the calipers and put it all back. smooothnesss

Then I went and got ceramic break pads ($42 at checkers a/k/a partsamerica.com) and now even better.

Another thing that could cause wheel shake under pressure is a bad wheel bearing. So it would be good to have it checked out. You might get lucky and find just a dirty set up that needs a good cleaning. Or not.

Best of luck to you

You should just have the rotors turned. That typically solves the problem.

i think warped rotors r goin a little extreme, unless she does sum heavy *** driving, but she prob doesnt, c'mon shes a GIRL(sexist) me and several of my frends ahve the slyte sterring wheel shake when we brake and thats just a sign for us that our pads needs to be change..and after we change them its absolutely smooth...

Where can you get the rotors turned? How much does it cost?

Usually at a tire shop or some place that does brakes. I did mine at a local tire shop and it cost me $50 or something like that. I know it was a bit more for mine because it's a 94 and rotor's are pressed on, on the front. The back they are bolted on so I think it was half that price.
