I just replaced the timing belt and tensioner and aligned the crank pulley at TDC then lined the cams to the holes. But here is where im confused. The head is milled .030 and i have no idea where the STR cam gears should be set at. Also anybody have any suggestions on tightening the timing belt. It seems whatever i do i still have slack on one side.

My set-up is:
b20b
stock bottom end
P&P LS head (milled .030)
95 ls cams
skunk2 i/m
jdm DC 4-1 header
RC 270 injectors (does no good)
STR fuel rail
STR cam gears
apexi S-AFC
B&M fuel reg.

I think ill keep the cam gears set at 0 then set the crank, align the cams to the holes then try my best to tighten the timing belt then from there ill screw with the cam gears.

Please anybody that has done this before and knows the steps please help me out. I need to get this thing running right.

If you have adjustable cam gears, just put them at tdc, and take the rest out with a timing light adjusting the gears. As far as the tension, it needs to be tight on the exhaust side, the intake side can have some slack. Make sure you crank the motor over 2-3 times by hand so the tensioner has time to do it's thing. Thanks for the reply, so ill make sure its snug on the exhaust side. This is one difficult sumofabitch to get correctly timed.

 

I bet it is. Just think, the crank turns the motor counterclockwise and the belt pulls the cam gears, so there really isn't any stress on the intake side. Between your dizzy and cam gears, I'm sure you'll be able to get the timing right.

Everything is alright now (for those who care). Set the crank and cam to TDC then warmed it up and put the timing light on it and seems to run like a champ. But im debating where to set my cam gears at to equal 0,0 becuase of the head being milled. My top end has taking a crap on me .

 

advance your dizzy a little and you'll lose some low end and pick up top end. It's not much of a change, but it helps.

 

I think my timing is still off, becuase i have to retard my dizzy fully in order for the lines to come even close.
