Default which is better for na build, close or open decked h22?

i'm in the process of purchasing a h22 motor for my 97 civic dx 4door. i wanted to know which is better for going all motor. Is the open deck or closed deck motor. i keep hearing mixed resutls from people. any help is appreciated. thankx

ok so basically it doesn't matter? well i do know the SH tranny is $hitty. i'd go with a obd1 tranny. my friend personally has had both obd1 and obd2 tranny's and he said you can feel the difference. whether that is just him or a fact i'll have to find out...

If you get a H22a4 SH, and have a Different tranny put on, You will need to fabricate a steel plate to mount the Mid shaft to the block because of the bolt pattern, if you didn't know that allready. I used a m2a4 tranny, with a 93 acord midshaft. It worked great while my engine was running.

thanks for the headsup. does you tranny pull harder than the stock H22?

your question was about the motor not the tranny. An H22 or A4 would work with the 5 speed tranny of any H22.
